Podtacular 183: Customs and Creations

Shownotes

Well, after unfortunate circumstances of me forgetting to bring my editing pieces home with me over the break, the episode is making it’s appearance. Captain Planet makes his appearance on Podtacular this week and Crypto misses out for reasons I don’t remember. We have a few submissions from new maps and still a good number from the older ones.. Thanks to Fungus Oz for this week’s podart. Enjoy.

Future of Podtacular

Well, a sad day in the Podtacular history has come where the future of the community lies in the balance. Our beloved CapnKrunk has been gracious to manage the website hosting for almost three years. Now he’s facing not having a job and having to pay for the website himself, which is not an easy burden at $250 a year. There have been little donations and the advertisements on the site have not produced any income. So now it’s time to decide the fate of Podtacular.

Many of the 500s is due to the fact that Krunk had to lower the hosting drastically so he wouldn’t be paying as much. Also, every time the podtacular site 500, the rest of Krunk’s sties did, which are his online portfolios that are needed for him to get a job. That’s why he has given us till the end of the month to make a decision. He also did not appreciate the whine thread about the site being down. Yes it was down, no it wasn’t our fault, but the fact is that it’s still here and there are other things outside Podtacular. Things break sometimes and they just have to be fixed.

We have been talking with friend of the show, Fyb3r from This Spartan Life about looking into the hosting they have. It looks very promising that we will be able to keep the majority of the site intact, but we will probably be downsizing the site to a Word Press type homepage with the forums. A lot of this is still up in the air, but we are definitely moving soon.

We appreciate all the donations we do get, but if you are looking to donate in the near future, please do so in the courtesy of paying back Krunk for all that he has done for the site. Krunk will still be around to help fix the site, but other than that, he is moving onto other things, and it has been a real blessing to have him be a part of Podtacular history. We will miss you and all your crazy voicemails ;)

Podtacular 182: Around The Ring: Left 4 Dead – No Mercy

Shownotes

Hello Podtacular! This weeks episode is a bit late, but I assure you it’s all Dust Storm’s fault. SOMEONE didn’t pay the bill –\_0.o_/–. This week we kick off our Left 4 Dead level series with No Mercy. Joining us is TheCrazyCommie, a friend of mine. In this episode, we set a record for submissions, and have some of the best bloopers ever! Over 14 minutes of them! Some of them I had to cut because they were past PG13. Thanks to Logan Payne for the background loop, and EliteSpartan for the album art.

PodTV Campaign Show Site

Well, it has been fun making this series, and it has drawn to it’s conclusion. I’ve boasted about this project to quite a few people, and I’ve been hard at work developing a site for it. So I’m please to announce all the videos are available to be viewed and downloaded on my website: duststorm.org. A little bonus: you can download the videos in high-res for all the dedicated fans out there. I really appreciate all the feedback and support for this project. You can access the videos here.

Now you may be thinking that I’m done, but I’m far from it. I have a few projects I want to pursue, one being the Halo Wars Campaign, where I will do the same thing I did with the Halo 3 campaign. And of course, when ODST comes out, I’ll do a series for that as well. Another project I’m looking to do will involve the community in the Podtacular Campaign: where me and three people will play the campaign with probably every skull, but the blind skull. I’ll be mainly focusing on people who have been here the longest and have dedicated the most time to the community or forums, but it doesn’t mean that everyone is excluded. Each level will have a different group of people, so there is plenty of slots. I’m also looking into machinima, but I’m not exactly sure what I’ll do, but I’ll definitely keep people updated.

Website Downtime

Some of you may have noticed what Podtacular has been down for two days. Please note that it was not something we did. DreamHost, our hosting provider for the site experienced a Denial of Service attack to their DNS which affected the databases that most of the sites hosted my them run off of. If you want more information behind the occurrence, please check http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/. Due to the downtime, we will not have a podcast this week, and will pick it up next week for Customs and Creations.

Podtacular 181: Multiplayer Tips and Map of the Month: Ghost Town

Shownotes

This week we take a look at the last legendary map: Ghost Town. It’s a good medium-sized map that goes well with most gametypes. GLewis is missed again, but is substituted by our very special guest: Zoom from the Cave Girls clan. Enjoy!
