Shownotes
ODST is just around the corner and we are hyping it up here at Podtacular. We had the chance to catch up on all the random frags in our inbox, and proceeded to talk about everything we are expecting from ODST. Our guest, Amplified Silence, happened to be at MLG Dallas and got to play Firefight as well. We also had a Podtacular first where we let guests come on the show and express their opinions on ODST. We had a nice turnout on the livestream feed and we expect even more people next week. Hope everyone is getting a copy. Enjoy

If you don’t know the Halo story too well, we’ve got two videos for you to help! Let’s get knowledgeable!
First, watch a video that Bungie made for the Halo 3 launch that describes the story up to that point. (Part 1, Part 2) Next up, a funny look at the history of the Halo universe leading up to the ODST story and including Halo 3.
Still don’t feel like you are prepared to drop? Check some non-spoilery campaign gameplay:
Now all you need is The Smell of Hero. See you in New Mombassa.
While at Dallas, we got to play some Firefight and some of the new Halo 3 Mythic Multiplayer maps. The man in charge of the whole thing is Chad “Shishka” Armstrong, Bungie employee who let us get in on a little Firefight action and a chance to play Heretic, the Midship remake from Halo 2. We had the opportunity to sit down with Shishka for 90 minutes and put his mind to our daring questions, one especially from Brent, but I shall digress. We had a few guests come in and out of the show, including Podtacular’s own Redot. Lots of interesting things especially right before the launch. Enjoy

MLG Dallas was definitely a blast and all the hosts got to meet up with each other for the first time. In this episode, we go back and remember all the cool things we got to do including being on the main stage floor, playing Halo 3 ODST, interviewing with Bungie employee: Shishka, and much more. Enjoy

Back from hiatus, I’m finally getting around to the multitudes of recordings that happened two weeks ago. If you attended the shows live, then you’ll know what happened already, but for those who didn’t, you’re in for a treat. First thing we have here is a recording we did at Brent’s apartment that swerved so much as to make us wonder if it’s worthy to be an episode. In light of what happened, we are just going to release this as an extra recording, not necessarily fitting anywhere. You’ll hear us say that it’s the first MLG Live show, but after what happened and the fact that GLewis and Brent were playing Halo, it’s not the official first episode. You’ll also get to hear Brent’s roommates chime in and out of the conversation. Episode 202 will be out later today and 203 will be out on Tuesday. Enjoy
1UP interviews Marty O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori (the two composers who have collaborated on most Bungie game music from Myth to Oni to Halo) about the differences between ODSTs themes and past ones, the darker tone, and non-linear gameplay.
Bungie has also put a lot of effort into its interactive music system, which runs invisibly behind the scenes throughout the Halo games. That system determines what music will best match the onscreen events at any given time and seamlessly transitions between pieces as situations shift… “The open hub was a bit different since the encounters weren’t scripted in the same way. I had to adjust to some more programmatic ways of having music played back based on random elements.”
Oh yeah, they also say that Marty is working on music for Halo: Reach right now as well as “something else…”
Also, Kongregate (one of the best Flash game sites around with achievements and everything) has a big ODST giveaway going on now. Four challenges in different games will earn you entries into the sweepstakes. Grand prize is an Xbox 360 Elite and a Mitsubishi 60″ 1080p HDTV plus there are 20 copies of ODST up for grabs.
