Around The Ring is back! Finally! Once again we’re late on the post, and once again it’s all Dust Storms’ fault. This week we continue the streak of terrible audio with the loss of my headset, and debate the pros and cons of Computers and Consoles as gaming platforms. Guess what the deciding factor was? Dropping in to guest host from Respawn Radio is Lono (pronounced “lawno”), Facehead from the Podtacular community, and everyone’s returning favorite: TheCrazyCommie! It was quite an episode, and made for a good start. As well you get the hear the new theme which…uh…well…hopefully you’ll like it more than I did!
Also before you start nagging you can find a higher resolution version of the album art HERE
Enjoy!

Pity they didn’t read many subs,
where is my sub?
sad face
love the first comment Master, if you look at the number of subs plus the debate portion it would have been at least 3 hours which we were not to sure if you guys would like that please post and tell us if you wanted a longer episode or not
LONGER EPSIODES RULE
Long show rule, but take longer to make, and valid points by everyone
Sorry guys, blame the “Shorter” show on me. I only had an hour to record. We did do a 1:17 minute show… that’s kinda long, at least in my book… LOL thanks for having me on Podtacular!
yaaa for havin lono on da show.
why is there subs in the shownotes and not in the podcast?
It is a war of words that will be in the annals of history. For ever and ever and ever, unless someone makes a better debate.
And oh another thing, I got a super high end computer less than $500.
Yet another thing, if you keep on spending $1000 a year for upgrading your computer, then you are doing it wrong.
I was disappointed by many of the comments the podtacular team made about pc. They were using points that said if you spend $1000+ bucks and take all this time, the pc is better. This is very true, if I get an alienware system, then it will run a game better than the same game on Xbox 360. The problem is that gaming is for the hardcore and CASUAL. I and a lot of other people who play casually can’t afford to spend all this money for a super super duper fancy computer, so the console works for us instead.. If you are a rich kid who wants to spend money or if you want to save money for a six months, go for it, but that’s not for me.
The other problem I saw with the points they were making is that it’s outrageous to say only “hardcore gamers” should be allowed to play. Gaming is for everyone! I don’t want to hear a ban on anyone under twelve, or a “25 year old fratboy.” I have loved podtacular for a long time, but it’s ridiculous how much stereotyping they are doing of console people, when at the same time there are many people who do the same things on pc.
I agree Peter, I was disappointed as well. Most of the episode didn’t actually make much sense.
To your second point, I’ve been reading about the matchmaking and ladders in Starcraft 2. I’ll be able to play with people my level and even complete against them in a ladder. I’ll be in the “I know I suck but I don’t care” ladder BTW.
chuckie you suck? i thought you blowed
ok in defense there should never bee a ban on any type or age of player the point was is that there are a lot more younger kids playing on games that by ESRB says they shouldnt and i agree i have had it too many times where there are little kids on M rated games calling me a noob and a *ing hack and many other things my point is that i feel on both console and PC online games there are to many immature gamers my saying is “if you don’t like how the game is going leave not to make a scene of yourself “
ok i will say i worded what i said wrong, but what i meant is that with the xbox coming out, its opening up gaming to a whole new audience, making some things more accesiable for people who, IMO, shouldn’t be playing those types of games. Go back to 2000, who would be playing FPS? people who find a challenge, and getting better, fun. There were always games made for everyone, super smash bros, mario kart, coolboarders, sonic. There were always plenty of games for other people, but with the xbox coming out, the whole RTS and FPS genre are getting easier, more forgiving. That’s not what i like.
I acknowledge that in many ways PC is superior. For example, as a console gamer, I very much hate being left out of the various game mods. I also acknowledge that a mouse is superior for FPS aiming. That said I think the place where PC ultimately loses out it the prohibitive cost, and technical issues that arise as the game specs change.
Its consoles FTW for me at the end of the day because I pay one price, and any piece of software I put in there is guaranteed to work without the need for hardware upgrades. And I don’t have to worry about driver issues etc. I don’t want to pay for that, and I don’t want the hassle. I think a lot of people feel the same. To me, uber graphics and some extra functionality aren’t worth it when a console is more than enough.
A reasoned comment!? YAY!
well yea if you think really hard (360 people dont hurt yourselves) the pc beats 360 hands down
bull shit socer ball sac
Soccersac if you have the money and the patience, yes. I just don’t feel that I am missing very much. My console is more than enough. Being on the bleeding edge just for the sake of it isn’t worth the money when I have a great experience with a console that is ready to go right out of the box for any software I might purchase for it. Console wins in almost every area except the graphics and processing power. But my 360 is more than powerful enough. I don’t want a hassle just to play a game. I don’t want the associated expense either.
My only regret is missing out on the mod scene. :(
I haven’t listened to this show yet but I like the topic of it.
I do agree the pc is superior, (I own a $1200 one I built myself for the record) although at this time I feel the consoles are a better deal money wise. I built my computer for gaming yes, but I also knew I wanted to get into some editing, photoshop, the kind of things a nice computer is useful for. I feel like I built it well enough to last for a good long while as well.
I didn’t jump on the i7 train because it’s still relatively new and expensive.
Anyways, to make my point, I feel like the pc CAN outperform the xbox if decked out well enough, but for an average guy (or girl) it really doesn’t make sense to go the pc route when you JUST want to game.
i agree aadude
I have a $1200 HP laptop (out of the box, but picked out components), and it’s not the best game console. Even an 8-bit game like Cave Story runs slowly when it’s on battery conserving mode.
Well, it’s a laptop, they’re gonna charge you like $500 more than a desktop just to make it portable.
Care to give us your specs?
And if you want to be serious about pc gaming (and your not some crazy nomad traveler) never, and I mean NEVER get a “gaming” laptop.
I’m pretty sure you bought it without the intention of doing serious gaming on it though……..right?
i repeat lance has a sexy voice it sonds like dustorm has a lisp and glewis sound buff

setting. Which I don’t do.
When you did you buy this? That seems like a crappy deal but you may have had it for a while. And what’s your video card situation?
Last August straight from HP. Also got Microsoft Office Suite 2007.
Huh. Don’t know how to check my graphics/video card :P.
I have a question, where did we get all of these hardcore PC gamers? It’s not that I don’t like you guys, it’s just that H3 is primarly a console game. Granted there is Halo PC and Halo 2 Vista, but I didn’t expect you guys to almost have as much console lovers. Where did you guys all come from?
You just didn’t look in the right places. We’ve been here.
Yeah, like you can’t tell what the hosts sound like yourself? By the way, Lance, what ethnicity are you? Just wondering, because of your first name and all.
im 15 and u r the 1 who is being imature
and yet you cant let this go thanks for prooving my point
LOL. That is all.
