Episode 101: Girls in Gaming Round Table

We start this episode off with an announcement: Podtacular is joining the Gamercast Network! We talk to Chad (or Chris?) from the Video Game Show podcast about the network and what this all means.

After that we talk all about girls in gaming: their reputation and stereotypes, how they deal with idiots on Xbox Live, the crazy messages they get, how they handle all-girl gaming clans and organizations, and JVB being banned from the “house of hotness.” This show was a lot of fun and has some sweet outtakes at the end. Thanks to our guest hosts: PMS Kitty from Gamerchix, Talli from LOA and Cavegirls, and TheDonWan who is a cohost at the Loading Reality podcast and a game tester at Bungie. Ladies, take it away!

Podtacular, Planet Xbox360, Uncle Gamer, and Gamertag Radio sound off on Crackdown

Recently JVB, Vicious696, Godfree, and Nelson got together to do an audio review of Crackdown, the game that comes free when you buy the Halo 3 beta. Wanna hear from them whether it’s worth the cash? Check it out on Gamertag Radio or on Uncle Gamer. I heard it’s on Planet Xbox360 too but I couldn’t find it there. Check out these podcasts guys, they’re really good. On a related note, we’ve got a pretty sweet announcement about the Podtacular podcast coming up on the next show (Thursday night). Stay tuned!

UPDATE: The good folks at the Gamerscore Blog posted a Crackdown community event recap for your reading pleasure. There’s also a video on xbox.com of JVB and friends enjoying some early Crackdown game play with Major Nelson and others. Sweetness!

Painkilla05 makes his triumphant return with another episode of songs to frag by: Podtacular Radio. This one focuses specifically on 8-bit songs: music that uses the audio palette of a NES. Check it out! It should be up on iTunes by now as well.

Episode 100: Centennial Special

This is a very special 1:20 long 100th episode with a look back over the last 25 narrated by CapnKrunk, a look toward Podtacular’s future with JVB, Painkilla05, Algebra Cow and Gemini Ace, some special voice mails, and the Podtacular Awards assembled by LT Redteam. Be sure to hang in for the outtakes at the end. Pod Art comes from Clown X, who actually grabbed all previous pod art and made a collage! Here’s a hi-res version if you’re so inclined. Next episode will be a short but full review of Crackdown: the game that comes with the Halo 3 beta.

UPDATE: wow, we’re getting a lot of support from the community on this one! KP from Bungie posted an article on bungie.net, stickygerbils congratulated us in the Halo Heads comic, and Louis Wu at halo.bungie.org posted a news item about the 100th show. Thanks everyone! Group hug!

A tribute to Ciclonic

Back in the day Freak in a Box volunteered to edit audio for Podtacular. Eventually he had to resign. So I ran a competition to see who the next volunteer editor would be. Ciclonic came out on top and started editing our shows every single week. He’s been doing this for quite a long time for no pay, sometimes at the expense of his personal life.

Life finally caught up with Ciclonic and he recently realized that the increasing demands of school were not leaving room for Podtacular editing any more. We’re sad to see him go, but we’d like to extend a 21 BR salute to the man who made the show happen for probably 30+ episodes. This is one talented and dedicated 16 year old! Thanks for all you’ve done, Ciclonic!

For the foreseeable future I’ll be editing the shows myself and trying to post them on the same night we record, with the exception of episode 100. Don’t worry, I don’t suck that bad, I edited episodes 97, 98, and 99 ( <- fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony). Anyway, let’s join in and show our respect for this pillar in the Podtacular community. Post your tribute in the comments!
