Dissecting the “Making of Halo 4” Video Documentary: Scoring System

Over the next few days and on our next podcast the hosts here at Podtacular are going to be breaking down the newly released video documentary / trailer that was released for Halo 4 this week. Look forward to our newest episode featuring other prominent community learders from around the Halo Universe. We recorded the episode last night and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it once we release it to everyone.

The first thing I am going to break down from the video are two tiny points in the game where the score changes for one team. Both of these clips show that the game type is BR Slayer and they pretty much show the same thing happening, a player kills another with the BR from the result of a headshot. I am going to link both of these two clips now.

Clip One
Clip Two

As you’ll see that in both of the clips once the kill is achieved the player’s team gains ten points. In the first clip you’ll notice where two medals pop up both of which indicate a “5” under the medal. It would lead me to believe that the ten points the player racked up for his team were the result of these medals. In the second clip the same situation occurs but it doesn’t last long enough to see whether or not any medals are the result of the ten points. You’ll also notice that in each clip each team’s scores are not divisible by ten. So to think each team gets ten points for a kill cannot 100% certain nor can it be ruled out because we do not know what else a player could get points for.

Personally, I don’t like the idea of getting points based upon medals. 343 might change my mind once I start to play but for now I am hoping that these results are either wrong or that it is just an option that is selected for scoring type.

What do you guys think? Sound off in the comments below.

(I know they aren’t really video clips but are animated .gifs I just assumed it would be easier for everyone to see.)

edit: Thank you to BrentGamer for reminding me my eye sight sucks and I cannot do math.

Waypoint Shows Us A First Look at Halo 4

Waypoint released their first behind the scenes look at the development of Halo 4. This includes a video that has been put up on YouTube and Waypoint. There are lots of little tid-bits in the video to take away, which we will be discussing tonight in our podcast. The key points that people will probably take out of this video are the changes they’ve made to Master Chief and his armor, the changes to the returning Battle Rifle, and the two multiplayer maps shown: Warhouse and Wraparound. We’re bound to see more news throughout the day, so stay tuned as we aggregate all the info.

In the meantime, Kiki Wolfkill was interviewed over at Game Trailers where we learn that Halo 4 takes place 5 years after the end of Halo 3. The game’s release is also marked for Holiday 2012, so it will probably be the best present you’ll get this year.

My East Coast Excursion

Everyone probably noticed that we haven’t done anything on the site within the last two weeks, with good reason.  I have been traveling the East Coast visiting some fellow podcasters and taking a vacation.  In a nutshell, I got to go to New York and visit Chris Burke, aka. Damian Lacedamian from This Spartan Life and Kete from The Running Riot.  I was planning to see JVB, but he’s a busy man.  Next stop was Florida where I got to meet Podtacular founder foomojive in Orlando and Community Godfather ChuckieJ in Gainesville.  For pictures and more, check out the forums.

We will be resuming our show this week with talks about ATLAS, Custom Challenges, and the updates we’ve seen to Waypoint and matchmaking.

Snowed In

In this week’s Halo Bulletin, we find that 343 has encountered quite a bit of snow.  To settle in, bs Angel has some goodies in the bulletin that might keep you busy until next week when they’ve hopefully dug themselves out.  Weekly Custom Challenges have been introduces whereby making the specified challenge will grant you some extra cR in-game to use.  In this week’s custom challenge, get out your pesticide, cause we’re hunting those nasty buggers.  The Office of Halo Intelligence continues on its second week: lots of meetings and reviews.  And as always, bs Angel answers some of the communities most pressing questions.

Podtacular 272: Game of the Year 2011

Last year was the year of more sequels, and we definitely had our fair share of games to play. In this week’s show, we decide on our picks for the best shooter of the year and then our favorite non-shooter. Except for a few classic podcast derailment segments, there are some good discussions about what made us choose the games we chose as our top picks for 2011. GLewis makes his re-appearance to the show, Brent Gamer surfaces for this show, and we bring on our new co-host DaftLink to make our choices. Enjoy

Podtacular 271: Protect the Internet

Shownotes
There’s been a strong opposition to two bills that have been brought up to the Senate and the House of Representatives that has been getting quite the amount of attention. For all of our non-American listeners, this may be news to you and not of much importance now, but it is something that we feel needs to be addressed and dealt with properly. The two bills in question are the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP Act, both of which, due to successful outcries by the US public are now put on hold, but it doesn’t end here. Former Co-host and now Community Manager of the Electronic Consumers Association, JVB is here to discuss what these bills mean and how they effect us as gamers. The shownotes contain some links that we discuss in the show and that you should take a look at. Enjoy
