Podtacular Tips Episode 19: Waterworks

General Tips

If you are being sniped, but you still have a little bit of shield left, the sniper rifle will only take off the shield. so if you only have a small amount of shield left, you can still survive 2 sniper shots. i should have told you this earlier during the sniping hints, but i only discovered it recently.

This is Xang again. i just have a general tip on people that just
respawned. if you hit them right after they appeared, you only do a
little damage compared to waiting a little and then hitting him with
all you have.

Sword Tips

Can’t reach that high place? Butterfly up there! All you need is one person with the sword. Basically, someone needs to jump on the sword guys head. The guy on top needs to continually jump off the sword guys head. The sword guy needs to continually press B,X,B,X continually. The sword guy will lunge at the first guy, but cancel the lunge before hitting him. This does take some practice. If you don’t press X fast enough, you’ll assassinate the first guy.

If you jump, press Right trigger, X, and A while you have the sword reticle locked on, you will lunge at the person, but end up jumping off their head and flying a far distance behind them If you are in a close quarters are that recieves alot of traffic, camp with the sword. Easy way to rack up alot of kills. Places like the Burial mounds base or beaver creek bases.

May seem obvious, but if someone is coming at you with a sword intending to lunge, keep backing up while shooting at him. As long as you stay outside the lunge area, you’ll kill him easily.

Never go out into an open area while holding a sword. Keep it in resreve our you’ll be dead kile that.

Fake the guy out. Get into a close range fire fight, then whip out the sword and lunge.

Map of the Week: Waterworks

Foo Mo’s basic tips:
1. get your sniper to get the banshee and fly to the top-most ledge of the center structure on the side. If he hits headshots it will be hard to find him and snipe him back.

2. use your wraith on ctf games to block the front and back doors with boxes. find a quick way to do this by watching a video online. (i don’t know where) remember a few things on this: you can use the wings like hooks to hook around a box and pull back. also you can shoot a blast and blow a box away from the wall. boost to throw it way forward. just stack two boxes tight in front of each door to block it in. Also, use your wraith or jeep turret to cover a flag grab. If your guy can get it out the front door, the turret can defend their exit.

3. someone going for rockets right away is more important than someone going for the jeep right away. make sure someone does that.

4. you can blow up a wraith by getting a banshee directly over it and firing down. The banshee turret doesn’t turn straight up. just watch out for ghosts, because you still have to get close because of the slow plasma bursts, and a ghost can fire on you when you do that. If the base is clear, you can exit from a banshee and drop right into the base from the top hole, too.

5. don’t forget the side entrances. there are 4 ways into the base: the front, the back, the side with the cave (jump onto the boxes and jump right into their ramp) and the back ramp. Know which one to go into, and don’t go with less than 2 people unless you know their base is clear. You can also jeep surf over the front wall and into the top entrance.

6. Keep at least 1 guy on defense inside the base! Never leave the base unguarded. (unless you’re on offense on a single-flag or single-bomb game)

Shoot the Stlagtites on the top! Especially the ones over the base doors.

Watch your driving, you dont wanna fall of the cliff with your flag carrier…

The Wraith is AWSOME on this map, always get in it, but watch your radar for guys to splatter!

Yo I got a really good tip for Waterworks and its also hilarious if it works. Take the banshee over to the opponents base and there will be a big stalactite on the roof of the cave shoot it and it will come down in front of there base and hopefully crush some guys. I have done it before and it was 1 of the funniest things ever to happen.

I think for offensive and defense, the wraiths are key. when the game starts try using a ghost to rush to their wraith. When a team has 2 wraiths, they can do some nasty damage. There are rockets and snipers on each side of the map. Some people don’t know that in the middle there are ladders. In CTF the base should not be left unguarded, because the openents can enter from the top ( walking down the ramp or dropping straight down), front, and behind.

This map basically has every weaponin Halo 2, and has the newb combo. Communication is key here. That’s why in BTB try to get a party of 8 containing people you know.

If you can perfect a rush with ghost, full warthog, rocket, a newb , a shotgun and a bomber bansheeriding (obviously there is a banshee driver), you will own assault.

When you Start the match, if you can, get the sniper and the banshee. Fly up to the thing in the middle of the map taht pounds down nad snipe. You can snpie from there or higher up, but the spot higher up is harder to hide in if the other team’s snper finds you. This is hard to explain without a picture. You may want to test the best spots in a custom game so that you do not get powned in matchmaking.

The Wraith is a big addition to this map but rarely works on offence. So instead of rushing the opposing base with the Wraith have it lurk around the back of your base and use it to come out when needed. Do this unless your team is able to obtain both Wraiths and atleast one of the rockets. At this point Wraith usage is fair game.

Since most game types on this map are Multi-flag or Multi-bomb (or whatever the assault with two bombs is called) defense is often overlooked. The two or three guys who stay back should be ones you can rely on. Usually dual-wielding or a nice noob-combo works on defense when camping a base. Also do not forget about the Shotguns, which are not far away for either base. It surprises me how many people do not go for or even know where the shotguns are (in-between the rocks to the left opening of the base), so remember to get the shotgun for some easy defensive kills.

The most dominant weapon on this map has to be the sniper. With up to three Snipers on the map at a time it can be both very useful and very devastating. Be sure to hold at least one of the snipers at all time and be wary of who has one, on both teams. If your team is lucky enough to get all three snipers then you’ll be riding high to an easy victory.

I don’t know how many times I gotta say it but I gotta say it, do not rush the opposing base with a Warthog until the anti-vehicle weapons are down. It is a complete waste of time to take off with a triple kill inside of a rolling death trap to an enemy base at the beginning of any game. Although many will argue that this tactic works great the only course that it ever works on is, Burial Mounds. If this has ever worked on Waterworks you were either moding or the other team was too dumb to get inside the Wraith and/or get the Rockets. Again, wait until one of the “Anti-vehicle” weapons are down, most preferably the Wraith, then use the Warthog to our own delights.

One more tip the Sword/ Battle Rifle combo works great on this map.

Waterworks is one of those huge maps, with a series of paths between any two
points on the map. Don’t forget this! For instance, instead of going
through the center with a flag or bomb, you might want to try going onto the
top of the middle structure, and then using the rocky paths up top for
transport. And don’t forget the side halls, either- they’re great places
for setting up ambushes and areas of control for your team, and can be
turned into speedy arteries for troop travel and hidden activity…

Waterworks, the key to this map (and any other big maps) TEAMWORK. I’m sure Foo Moo will back me up, he’s a teamwork guy. Use your mikes, play to your strengths, cooperate. Remember, if your goal is to level up, play for your team, not you. If your goal is to have fun, play for your team, not you.

General tip: This map is about teamwork so when you have a warthog driving through a part of the map, have a sniper or Banshee pilot tell you where to go. Like for example a wraith is on the farside in the back. You don’t know but you ask your sniper/pilot where to go. He/She tells you where the enemy is, so problem averted!

Univeral tip: Shoot the Stlagttes with a rocket, wraith,or banshee. But if your using a tank, aim at the tip of it and shoot. It will knock the stlagtite move farther. This works if there are enemies in front of the enemy base. It will simply drop and kill most of them.

Sniper Rifle tip: When you get yhe Sniper Rifle and you have a banshee near-by take the Banshee and fly toward the compressor in the middle of the map. Go to where the pump comes doown and leave the Banshee by the tip of it.(It’s wise to drop the Banshee off the edge so no one can steal it)Then you will see an opening large enough to hide in. It makes for the best sniping spot. Shoot before the pump comes down and if you didnt kill the enemy, they will be dazed and confused. They will then look around and as the pump comes back up, shoot them if they aren’t already dead. I use this tip regularly and it works wonders!

On Waterworks the banshee is your friend. I usually take it and head straight for the enemy rockets, When you get there they will probably shoot at you but chill out and do barrel rolls until they have to reload in which you shoot them to crap and once killed steal the rockets and get back in the banshee. When in the banshee takeing out a wraith attack from a high altitude and circle the wraith, most wraith drivers rarely lead their targets and the ones that do can easily be dodged if you attack from far enough away. Also if the enemy base has a turret, dont be stupid and attack from the front go in the back where they cant shoot back. No one ever does this but instead of going above the middle structure go under it for a better surprise. When fighting another Banshee always circle it dont go right at it, this gives you a larger chance of survival.

My favorite thing to do for multi anything is defend with a wraith. I take the wraith and move it to the left side of the base, that way you can defend against about 80% of the oncoming assaults. Here’s some tips:

1. LEARN TO SHOOT INSIDE YOUR CAVE. A good wraith shot can take out a rocket guy or sniper in the cave before he even realizes what side of the map he’s on. I can get a shot all the way to the plasma granades with a little precision. It catches victims by surprise every time.

2. Watch watch WATCH your radar. If you see no one on the screen physically, focus on your radar. Make sure no one is sneaking up on you.

3. Keep moving. A sitting wraith is just rocket fodder.

4. Help your team out against snipers on the top of the level. If you’re in one and they call out a sniper or you see the bullet trail, focus on him for a second. Again, a good wraith handler can take out a sniper up there (or at least give a good distraction) with one or two shots, leaving your team to move about freely.

5. Remember, you can take out a warthog with ease by slamming into it. Use it. Most warthog drivers go to the back of the base, leaving them and teammates in a very narrow area. One good boost and a follow-up shot should take care of them.

6. A banshee is your worst enemy. If one is attacking you, be a distraction. Call for help. Lead the banshee away from the base. Move around and keep looking for enemies to splatter or blow up.

Now for the ultimate tip:

7. If you are a hawk-eyed, speedy, precision shot, there ARE spots on the map where you can attack the front door of your enemies base or the ghost/warthog area from your own base. Be warned, this takes MUCH skill, far more than I have to pull off effectively. But if it’s done correctly, you could make the other team crap their pants. Imagine starting off a round and seeing a wraith blast come and destroy your warthog as you get in it. It’ll freak them out. And, there is ONE spot where you can land a shot IN the enemy’s base from the top hole. MasonC2K has done it before. I forget where that is though. Oh well, play a custom game and find it yourselves!

There are more advanced tips, combining rocket/wraith and sniper/wraith. Also, don’t forget about wraith bumping… :o)

You have a Banshee, use it! Very useful for recon or taking out enenmies in an open area.

Use the Wraith to your advantage. If you are on offense, the Wraith is a great way to clear the opposing base. If on defense, watch for anyone trying to come up, give them a nasty surprise.

Trying to steal the flag from the opponents isn’t fun or easy. You need a quick way out. A good idea is to take a Hog to the back, grab the flag, get out and drive off.

If you have the flag and no vheicle, take the teleporter. Very handy.

If you are on defense, camp beside the stack of boxes inside the base.

The large boxes outside the base can be easily moved by a wraith. Use them to block either entrance.

Have a person or 2 guard the cliff area near the banshee spawn. This is a very good area to sneak in from.

The big window near the Banshee spwan makes a good sniper spot.

The turret on top of the base is pretty handy against an oncoming hog or ghost, but don’t expect to last long against a wraith.

If you can kill the opponents Banshee, take a sniper and drive your own banshee up to a really high spot. Somewhere hard to get too that gives you a great view of the opponents base. Just watch out for the slamming column in the middle of the level. Time your shots.
