Podtacular Episode 180: Halo Wars Demo-lition
for the week of February 15th, 2009

(Hosts: Dust Storm, L0rd4bove & ChuckieJ)

tokyoinamerica

Hey dudes

I just pre ordered halo wars and I thought I should send in a submission.
The demo was really good the graphics look absolutely amazing. The cut
scenes were amazing and the story is looking good so far. The few flaws I
had with the game was the camera angles they limit you too a very small
range and only tilted not directly above your troops. Besides that the game
play was very simple probably one of the easiest RTS on a console ever. I
can’t wait to see what happens in the rest of the story. I wanna try out
some multiplayer too and challenge some players here at podtacular.
So far the demo was great games gonna be great everythings ok in my book.

Keep on fraggin hotdogs.

Leonidas117

Hey guys, it’s Leo. Nothing big this week, as I don’t have a working Xbox.
But if you can tell me, what did YOU think of it?

EliteSpartan

Hey there again Podtac its EliteSpartan182 again and I am holding to my
resolution. Here are some tips for Halo Wars 1)when you get you base set
up try to upgrade all of your supply drops to get more resoures. 2)Use
those supplies to bulid and upgrade all vehicles and infantry to get more
fire power for your squads. 3(Always keep your squads full or you will be
at a disadvantage during a fire fight or battle. Last but most important,
4(Never take infantry near a scrab or any other heavy vehicles or you will
be wiped out faster than MC killing a grunt, so always have Warthogs and
other vehicles with you. Good luck with the show. Keep on fraggin fat, jock
brutes that put so many nerdy grunts into plasma lockers.

PoopInABasket

Hey guys its PoopinaBasket, and I have returned with my opinion on Halo
Wars…..

Even though this is not a first person shoota with the Masterchief, I
think all halo fans should buy this game. It gives us a new view point of
the halo universe that we haven’t experienced before. The gameplay is fun
and the controls are simple. Plus the story seems to be very well done. Im
going to buy it AND YOU SHOULD TOO!!

Bye.

Green bagger52

Well, I have a tip for skirmish. If you are playing for the UNSC, use the
base you first start out with one power plant and the rest with supply
pads. You sould up grade the supply pads before the power plant. Then
build Warthogs with the gunner upgrade and if you want an Elephant. If you
have the Elephant, build troops and attack the base next to you. When you
do attack, there is a turret and take that out first. Now there is nothing
to kill you so take out the base and build. Build one of everything and
two supply pads if you upgraded to Fortress. Now you can do what ever you
want from there.

JAC Overlord

I would like to start off by saying that I have never played a PC RTS, and
so my first RTS was Tom Clancy’s Endwar. I didn’t really enjoy it, so that
being my first RTS, I didn’t really like the genre.
I had always kind of wanted Halo Wars, but after I played Endwar, I wasn’t
so sure. Even when Bungie announced that the Mythic Map pack would come
with the Limited Edition, I wasn’t sure. Then, I played the demo. I started
up the tutorial, and quickly learned out how to control my units, and crush
the Covenant. I thought “So far, so good.” Then, I started the campaign.
That first cut scene quickly cought my attention, and I thought “Holy crap,
this looks so amazing!”
Once I started playing, I really noticed how well Ensemble worked out the
controls. I was completely drawn in, and didn’t realize that 10 minutes had
gone by when the first level was done. I really like how the game plays,
and how much it feels like the Halo we all know and love. It is truly a
shame that Ensemble was shut down, because from what I’ve played from the
demo, this game easily deserves a sequel. I had such a blast, and noticed
some pretty cool little things, such as when I moved my cursor over a
Spartan, he said “Where’s John?” The voice work was pretty good, too. I am
very impressed with this game, and have pre-ordered the limited edition, so
I will have this truly amazing game, and a sweet map pack for Halo 3.

Overall, I had a blast playing this, and couldn’t stop playing. I played
this demo non stop all Thursday, and think it’s one of the coolest games
I’ve played.

White Lite_1

Hello everybody. I just wanted to right in to tell you that you can tell
your infantry forces to take cover in sniper towers or behind rocks by
putting your cursor thing on the object and press X. This provides a lot of
cover for you people while letting them fire at your enemies.

l ninjaman59 l

This is the ninja with a plan, and OMG THIS GAME IS
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it, I’m
going to pre-order the limited edition hopefully tomorrow, but anyway onto
the game. The gameplay is very appealing even to first person shooter
fanboys like me. I’ve never played a real time strategy game before, but
I just picked this game up and played. The controls are very easy to learn,
and the circle menu for your bases and etc. doesn’t really draw you away
from the combat. My favorite part is the base building. (and the combat is
fun too) I think the spartans are the best thing ever. I know that this
submission is kind of skippy, but halo wars makes me so excited. Anyway I
don’t really have anything else to say about it, so this is the ninja
with a plan signing off.

Lone Soldier332

What’s up, guys? I’ll tel you: Halo Wars. Due to be released on March 3rd,
it will either make or break Ensemble’s future. Most likely, make.
Well, l have a good couple of tips for you when playing in Skirmish. When
you begin, build at least two Supply Depots. You need those to build more
buildings and train soldiers. Then immediately build a Baracks and send the
marines you train directly to the north. The Forerunner Facility directly
to the left of you (when facing the garage), will be guarded by
Insurrectionists, but they’re easy. Capture that by putting only one squad
in the facility. The Covenant won’t bother you there, so it’s a waste to
put more than one squad.
Build an Elephant. They are portable spawners for Spartans and Marines.
Make sure you build at least two refineries as well. You need those in
order to fire the golden chariots from the Spirit of Fire that is the MAC
Cannon. Those become especially useful when countering the Prophet of
Regret and/or a Scarab. Finally, when assaulting the Covenant’s primary base, send two different
squadrons attacking from both sided. Flanking the enemy like that may seem
pointless, or a waste of time, but it’s not. It’s extreemly effective.
Especially on heroic.

Well, that’s all I’ve got. Shoutouts to Usedzombies, Crypto, GLewis,
Dusty, whomever is the guest host this episode, and most of all, my new
girlfriend.

chickenfoot089

Hey Podtacular! This is my first submission so I hope it’s good, firstly,
I’ve played the Halo Wars Demo that came out on the Marketplace a while
back. Even though it was a demo, I can guess that this game is going to be
the BOMB! When you start, you are greeted by really well animated
cutscenes, an old guy, the new Cortana and a guy called Forge. This Cortana
luckily doesn’t have nervous breakdowns every game(hopefully) and the Forge
guy is cool but not as cool as the chief (I miss him :-( ) Well, it was
just a demo but there are some mentions of the infection(Floodtime!). It is
a very good game and you guys should try it out. Keep on fraggin’ them gosh
darn truckmobiles.

Jaba

Ok, Whats up guys its Jaba. Ive got a few tips for Halo Wars:

My first one is to build separate reactors when on the UNSC, then upgrade
later, it saves resources.

Also right off the bat build up your and army I always like to have 3 or 4
factories so I have lots of money.

When you have lots of marines and upgrade them your unstoppable. You need
to just focus on upgrading 1 part of your army.

Also try to capture the rebel base, its a good way to make more buildings.
I have gotten really far by doing it!

Well good luck guys! And keep on fraggin’ Peter Marshalls who Love Mara
Weirangas. (Pronounced Mara We’re ayng uh)

D=

Painkilla05

So my strategy so far in the demo is to build 6 supplies and a reactor from
the start. Using the money gained upgrade them all to level 2 depot’s while
building turrets, upgrading the warthog, and building about 5-6 hogs. Once
that base is complete I rush the rebel and turn it into a a base with 1
reactor, 1 airport, 1 armory, and 3 more supply points. Seeing how stupid
the AI is they’ll completely ignore this second base and attack your main
so don’t worry about defending the secondary. Once the armory is maxed out
recycle it and buid another supply point. by now you should have access to
gauss hogs, hornets, and vultures. What I like to do now is build many hogs
and hornets with one or two vultures. Maybe even a maxed out elephant with
a spartan in it. Those things are invincible when in base mode!!

D-man

Hey Podtacular, its D-man here to talk about the Halo Wars demo. Overall I
impress with the control setup for this RTS because other RTS games for the
360 seem to fail on this. The game’s graphic were well done, especially the
detail of the UNSC marines and their vehicles. The story from demo was
interesting and it nice to see familiar faces like the Arbiter and the
Prophets. I hope that other character make a appearance in this game. The
only disappoint part of this demo was the unplayable UNSC Spartans. I
really wanted to make a small squad of spartans and watch them create and
path of destruction. Plus demo’s difficulties were easy. In conclusion the
demo rocks and I can’t to pick up my copy. Thanks Podtacular for reading
this and keep up the good work.

Major

Hey podtaculAR. Major here, and theres a few things id like to say. You
can play as the covanent. Epic. And, you can build scarabs. Uber Epic. Anywho, I love playing teh war of halo’s already, cant wait to get the
game.

“There’s only one thing left to say”

CoVaNeNt RuLeS!

P.S. I guess ill submit a tip, insted of leaving you hanging with my
covanent ramble. smiley face But a little thing that took me time to
figure out was that the little crates that are lying around can be picked
up by infintry units and gives you extra materials. Just select a squad of
infantry and press ‘X” over one of the crates and they will start to pick
them up. Whala. Instant reasorces.

keep fragging UNSC bases and those pesky minuature spartens… with
stickys.

TeamRK

PLEASE HAVE G-LEWIS READ THIS IN GANSTER TALK ;D

Hey guys its OMG ItZ nub, and im here with a submission for the halo wars
special. Overall i really liked the game demo. One thing that i thought
was weird was that the covenant was extremely purple. A couple things i
liked about the demo was that they included alot of vehicles that you never
actually get to play with in any of the other games, there was alot of
strategy to the demo, and there were power ups for about every unit.

Cant wait till the game comes out in june!

Keep on fraggin nubcakes who use dd(p++) in PVP after good whip hits!

P.S. Whats the name of the song at the beggining of the podcast?

Longrange950

Does anyone know if the regular edition of the Halo Wars retail game come
with the Mythic map pack? I heard it comes with the limited but I’m not
sure it comes with the basic.

shotgunfriendly

Hello my fellow podtacians the luvable yet not so humble shotgunfriendly
has arrived to once again provide his insight upon something.
ahh beloved halo wars how i wish thee were here already and i could afford
to dish out 70 dollars for u and the mythic map pack all bundled together
so nicely.

anyways like many of you i have had the pleasure of playing the halo wars
Demo and honestly i LOVE IT! the UNSC plays quite well in the demo although
lacking a hero from the start unlike the covenant but still having awesome
special abilities like my most favorite of favorite abilities ODST
HEV drop pods. the flame marines unfortunately dont
exactly hold themselves all that great in combat when i use them which is
really sad considering that a marine carrying a flame thrower in real life
is one MOFO you do not want to mess with.
as for the covenant i havent had as much game time using them but as
always the elites do not disappoint honor guards are amazingly powerful
when taking on infantry, hunters are as monstrous as ever, and those damn
jackal snipers are some damn good shots. WE GOT JACKALS IN THE
COURTYARD!!!!

still probably the most satisfying moment for me was getting the ODST for
the first time. just their sheer presence on the field made me feel good
inside. and dropping them off using HEVs are just to amazing.

anyways thats all i really have to say about the Demo. well time to do
another fragging paragraph. keep on fragging those no good sticky whores
who drive around in a sticky truck, licking sticky cheetos, while enjoying
a sticky foot rub, being administered by a sticky alien, from the alien
world of stickyvergon 6, who enjoys sticky walks along the beach according
to his sticky profile on stickbook, with a good old fragalicous frag
grenade from fragstens frag grenades the only provider of safe and reliable
frag grenades sense the Covenant War of 2524!

thank you come again

stallmeplease

Hello everyone it is stallmeplease here to express my opinoin on halo wars.
I have been looking forward to halo wars for about 6 months now. I hopped
in the demo and it made me slap a preorder on it. The campaign is terrible
but skirmish mode is soooooooooooooooooooo amazing. It fits console
controls well. My only thing I don’t like about it is that the 3
diffuculties are way too simple. Maybe its because I have mad rts skills.
That’s all I got. Keep on fraggin dustorms tasty watch. I ate it right after
I stole it.

RicEsNakRozZ

Yo fellow Podtactians
When the Halo Wars demo came out it was the most epic day ever. I woke up
at 5 o’clock to start downloading it then went back to sleep so when i got
up it was ready to go. when it first started it was really cool, the cut
scenes were the best i have ever seen. when i went to start campaign i
chose the advanced tutorial so i could learn everything, and its best to
choose that. it teaches you every thing from moving a warthog to moving and
firing a scarab. my suggestion for skirmish is ADVANCE ADVANCE, ADVANCE.
That is one of the most crucial things if you want to play well. a few days
later i went up to my local game store and pre-ordered the limited edition
and it comes with the Mythic maps for halo 3, a couple of books and an in
game Honor Guard wraith to use.

well that about sums up my sub.

RicE sNak RozZ out of the hizous…....

azn_dude1

Oh wow I haven’t submitted something in forever. So yea, I’m Asian. An
Asian dude, to be more specific. The first one.
Anyways, the demo rocks. Go get it if you haven’t already. I could play
skirmish over and over again. I’ve mulled it over a bit, and I think a good
opening UNSC base setup, in order, is: supply pad, reactor, barracks,
supply pad, vehicle depot, reactor, supply pad. Then, you rush the
neighboring base and start building your armory, airfield, and all that fun
stuff. I’ve only played as the Covenant once, and it definitely takes some
getting use to. I haven’t played that many games to get the scarab or
vultures, but I expect them to be pwnsauce. They seem expensive….

Now stop listening/reading this and go play some more. Now.

Stunned Trout

I played the demo for halo wars and i have to say that the game is
overbalanced in favour of the covenant. My tip is keep the mach cannon for
a scarab. (or 3 types of tank and a vulture) I love all of the new vehicles
and infantary but i think spartans should be more upgradable. Anyway i
preordered the game as soon as i was able to and i suggest you all do tthe
same MYTHIC MAP PACK 4 FREE!! :) Thanks for your time to read this
submission and great job with the podcast shout outs to duststorm for his
great campaign runthrough, Lancalot for his great new segmant and Capn
Krunk for being so cool.
Trout Signing off

P.s. SANDWICHES!!!

P.p.s. I can has good Spelling?

Nero the Demon

Hey this is Nero the Demon this is my first submission First of all
the scarab is overpowered there is no easy way of taking it down when your
on the human side except for using the MAC guns and still it’s hard How i
would do it is send in Spartans with spartan lasers and try to get them
underneath the scarab where it can’t hurt you or use a army of vultures
that’s all the tips I have and shout out to Tokyoimamerica uzimaki15
shadowdreamer and leonidas117 Keep on fragging trucks that have been
stolen by naynay to stalk jvb and foomojive for leaving the podcast

moose0030

This is moose0030 with some Halo Wars tips.
If you play as the Covenant, banshees are your best friend. They are cheap
to begin with and when you get enough money they can be upgraded and can
become quite powerful. I also like to take over the other base and build
all warehouses except for one shield generator and one air base or whatever
type of attack you like(infantry, tanks, aircraft). Keep up the work and
keep on fraggin trucks.

Capta1n PLan3t

Hello podtacular unofficial halo universe podcast that is bringing me the
latest halo news! I haven’t wrote in for a while so I thought the show
could use some more sparkle.
So, Halo Wars….... halo wars, halo wars halo wars. It may be the fact
they I hate RTS’s with a passion but I just didn’t really feel this game.
It hardly seemed much different then any other RTS to me. Build up your
army, get supplies, make vehicles, finish the objective. Some might argue
that it’s one of the better RTSs because it did all the things normal RTSs
do but better. The only saving grace for me was that it took place in the
Halo Universe. I mean, sure, seeing these marines and warthogs kill those
silly grunts and brutes was fun, but I got tired after a while.

I actually considered picking this game up solely for the fact that I
would get the maps early. Kind of reminds me of Crackdown. (Although I
though crackdown was hawtsauce anyways) But there will always be more
important things I need to use that money for. College, a
car,.........coughMeadowlandscough. So, I may end up renting this game
but I can’t see it as a “buy” for me.

All hate mail can be addressed to aadude4@gmail.com =D

Also, just wanted to give a big shoutout to the guys that have been

maybe?......no? nah. I really hope there are no chicks guest hosting) I
look forward to hearing each podcast you guys deliver to my ears. Keep up
the good work!

Knightrillian

Hey podtac second submission from me KNIGHTRILLIAN. Just thought i’d inform
you that on halo wars the opperator of the cobra has a British accent
probobly a sign for Crypto future. Anyway keep on fragging pre game lobby
veto singers who make up their own version of souljaboy with their gamertag
