Podtacular Episode 128: GOODBYE HALO 2: FAREWELL TO AN OLD FRIEND.
for the week of September 19, 2007

(hosts JVB…)

introductions

Duffman X18

Hey guys, it’s Duffman X18 again, and I have a couple moments I would like
to share.

1.) Unlikely win- I was playing a game of assault on terminal (you know,
the map with the train) in matchmaking, when my team started quiting just
because the other team scored. So the next round it was me versus 3
people on the other team. I spawned by the turret and headed into the
parking garage to get the rocket while “juggling” the bomb. I eventually
got to the area overlooking the Wraith spawn point. So I take out the
rocket launcher and proceed to blow it up. Then I drop the bomb down off
the ledge and hop down, coming to the other two opponents. I blasted both
of them with a rocket, picked up the bomb armed it. After that the next
round was over pretty quickly as two of them quit, leaving one to fare for
himself. I quickly killed him, and he quit.

2.) Funny stick- One time when I was playing a custom game on Midship,
this guy threw a sticky at me. I throw a sticky on the ground in front of
him, but it doesn’t hurt him. Instead it blew up right as his plasma
grenade flew over it, causing it to change course straight to my face
instead of the ground.

Well, i’ll just in all miss halo 2. The friends, the maps, and the sword…I can’t believe halo 3 is right around the corner. I remember saying how bad halo 2 was going to be to my friends, and how killzone would beat it in every single way. My greatest memory, though i only had halo 2 for a year, is when i played 12 hours straight with my friends from school, but i hope to have even greater memories in halo 3.

SGT Corona

Well farewell Halo 2, I had some good times on Halo 2 and wont forget it. The times with BrentGamer, JBurton and myself and another forth player pwning nubs, Calling ourselfs Team Bnet. All the Monday Night Matchmaking games which were awesome, thanks to Sqweryl. Hopefully, JPOliver and myself will somehow figure a way to bring these back up. Although I got Halo 2 1 year after its launch, I felt like I have been playing since the beginning. There have been some good times but also some bad times with Halo such as modding, button glitching and all that stuff. Thanks to all the people that made it fun to play everyday. Making awesome friendships with this game. R.I.P Halo 2. You will be missed. Shoutouts to everybody at Podtacular and the Podtacular IRC. This is SGT Corona. ill see you guys later

Kyle

I picked up halo 2 a couple hours after midnight and beat the first two campaign missions that morning, then I had to go to school and I was sad. The longest session, and most fun I had, was the Halo 2 all nighter, I think it lasted 10 or 11 hours. Only a couple more weeks till Gears of War will be dethroned, Halo 2 will definitely be missed.

LONGSHOT

I’ll never forget talking my dad into taking me to the mall to get
Halo 2 at the midnight release. Upon arriving home was quick to put
it in and go to matchmaking. I went straight to head to head (you
might remember that used to be a gametype) and some guy beat me who
had been playing for a few hours. I was in shock at the graphical
upgrade and knew I had a lot of learning ahead. I will miss all the
fun 1v1s I played on lockout and will miss lockout as a whole. Yeah
there’s guardian but I will always miss the original.

tubaguhbluba

After 3 long years of waiting, we will finally be able to finish the fight
in a few days. As i look back on halo 2, i remember the thousands of
custom games ive played, from the built in game types like Slayer and
Capture the Flag, to the user created game types like Zombies and Team
Bubble Bath. Ever since i joined the Podtacular community, i always
enjoyed playing these games with everyone, even though the game was 3
years old. When halo 3 comes out, imagine how AWESOME it will be to play
these game types, as well as even more game types that the community will
eventually come up with in Forge in the future. Multiplayer made Halo 2 a
huge success because of clans, which made it easier to form communities
like Podtacular. What I liked about Halo 2 was that not only was it a
great gaming experience, but also a great social experience as well. Now,
the only thing i hated bout halo 2 was, of course, the ending. This major
cliffhanger led to millions of gamers screaming at their T.V.’s and
cracking a few skulls open with their controllers. But im hoping all the
questions will be answered in halo 3.

So long, halo 2.

The night Halo 2 was released, where were you and how did you feel when
you finally got your hands on the game.
Ah Halo 2, the time seems to have flown with Podtacular. I still remember
the good old days with Oldmogo as first podtac OV, playing my first game
game in Halo 2 and all the friends I’ve made and lost over the years. the
first game I remember playing after getting Xbox Live was Rumble pit on
Beaver creek, sadely enough I think I came in 3rd. After that it was all
BTB because I figured I had a good chance. Before the first level reset
BTB was my highest level as a 16. Than I found podtacular. I still
remember the day, just checking out Bungie.net and seeing a post for a new
Halo Podcast. so I go to check it out and am taken away by its greatness.
What fun the blogspot was making friends with strangers with names like
Nick of Time, Quality Jeverage, Samanator, and Spelchek. Through
podtacular I made lots of friends on Halo 2 and would of probably
abandoned it if it hadnt of been for the community. I went on to win 2
tournements and play with Bungie! Truely though I own my Halo experience
to Podtacular. Thank you all very much to everyone who has worked on it
ever and especially to Foo Mo for starting it all.

Spence

I will definatley miss halo 2 simply because it brought us all together on this wonderful site.

The things i did like: I liked halo 2 for lots fo reasons but mostly because i can have a great time on it. I can nearly always find at least on person on my friends list online in halo 2 and when i join, about 75% of the time i would have a fun time :)

this i didnt like: Well the reasons i didnt like halo 2 is because of what most people didnt like it for. Things such as cheating, laging and modding.

before halo 3 comes out i will try to play halo 2 a lot to try and get the most fun i can get out of it before it is left on the shelf to gather dust…

LONG LIVES HALO!!!!!

CrimsonViper

Since I never had an Xbox, I joined in after I got my 360. Being late to the crowd, I knew I was pretty far back in terms of experience. I remember once I got it [Halo 2], I played for a good 12 hours straight on the first day. The podcast helped a lot. I still recall playing around with a bunch of the guys early on, like Sqweryl, Dinomaster4 and woof1989.
Halo 2 has given me some great times in all of my gaming, even small things like the “banana demon” elite assassination, the scarab gun, a plethora of great online experiences and so much more. I’m so happy I’m able to share this with friends online for the first time ever in Halo 3 (after I’ve played them).
Online was pretty hard to get used to though, until a bunch of members helped me out. It would have been so much more simple if there were no combos, like the noob and button combos.
A Halo 2 podcast has made Podtac run for a good 2 years, Halo 3 (and Halo Wars) will keep Podtacular running for so much many more. Heres hoping it never stops :D
Thanks for reading up this novel of a submission, CrimsonViper.

SGO LoneWarrior

hey podtac this time i have little to say about halo 2 but i think it needs
to be said…halo 2 has been an amasing game that has far outdone it self.
story wise it was an ok game but it was a perfect middle game for a
trilogy. the first part in a trilogy is just an introduction to the story
that leaves you with some questions. the second part answers a few
questions but leaves you with even more questions and somtime a cliff
hanger. however the third part of the trilogy is were every thing comes
full circle. all questions are answered there is no more mystery and there
are no more secrets. halo 2 has done a great job as the second part of the
trilogy, but now its time has come and it needs to retire. so after all my
glorious hours and memories i must say it has been an honor to play halo 2
which has again surpassed all expectations. though when you think about it
halo 2 is the reason that were even writing things into this show. so if
halo 2 can do this to bring community together and let us have friends
from all across the globe then halo 3 thould be even better. And at that I
salute Halo 2 as a game for the history books. halo2 fare well my
friend…

· The night Halo 2 was released, where were you and how did you feel when you finally got your hands on the game.

That day was really bittersweet. I loved getting ahold of the game, but I knew the series had to end and that this was really just another step closer to the ending of a series I love.
· Your favorite moments with the single player and multi-player.
My favorite moment had to be when a bunch of people brought their younger siblings to a LAN party and they all wanted to play. We put them all on the same team and absolutely destroyed them and then they just shut up.
· The things you hated the most about Halo 2.
I really hated fighting the brutes in Halo 2. I remember my first playthrough wondering why the AI was so broken that they just charged in stupidly.

· What will you miss the most about Halo 2?
Honestly, I really will miss staying up late on matchmaking and listening to drunk people scream constantly and having the 10 year old on our team who does nothing but corpse hump players.

StormPhoenix2

It’s almost over. Within mere days, Halo 2 will be nothing more than a
memory. It’s now time to look back at all of the most memorable moments
we had.

Personally, the moment when you fought alongside the Scarab in campaign
mode was awesome. The initial reaction of “Holy crap, I’m fighting
alongside one of these things rather than against it” is easily one of the
most memorable moments in Halo 2’s campaign.

As for multiplayer moments, my most memorable is the first – and only -
time I managed a Kill Frenzy. It was Gulch Wars on Coagulation, and I
unluckily spawn with the opposing team. Sounds bad, right? Well, not
when you spawn next to the Scorpion tank.

I got in and started wreaking havoc on the other team. At first, I scored
a Triple Kill, but the team was clever enough to stop that initial attack.
I wasn’t done, though. I then blew up a partially loaded Warthog for a
double kill, then used a combination of the machine gun turret and the
tank’s main cannon to work my way to a Killtacular. I then turned to
notice an opponent looking to hijack the tank. I fired the main cannon
and got the Kill Frenzy just before the tank was destroyed. I ended up
with eight kills in a row just by getting lucky on what, at first, would
have been a bad spawn.

The thing I hated most about the game, though, was easily the Flood.
Looking back, they remind me of the Wretches in Gears of War – annoying
little maggots who are hard to kill because they jump around like maniacs. That, of course, ends when the Flood gets the receiving end of a nearby
shotty.

Looking back at Halo 2, it’s easy to say that it was the greatest FPS of
its generation. Here’s to all of the memorable moments that we all got
from Halo 2, and here’s to even more memorable moments in Halo 3.

George

Great idea for a show!

My fondest memory of Halo 2 was trying to track down a pay phone to
activate an axon here in Utah for I Love Bees. Unfortunately, the pay
phone in question had been attached to a gas station that was torn down
the day before. However, my wife and I still had a great adventure
trying to track it down. I Love Bees took the already rich backstory for
Halo 2 and expanded it well beyond anything previously possible for a
video game.

Now, like a lot of others, I was shocked and dismayed at the ending of
Halo 2, but like Joss Whedon has said, “Always leave them wanting more.”
And the cliffhanger ending of Halo 2 hasn’t pissed me off as much as a
lot of other people. I think we all knew there would be a Halo 3, which
for me softened the blow of the sudden ending.

Other top moments for me: The bridge at the beginning of Metropolis. The
Energy Sword. Vehicle Hijacking.

Anyway, Halo 2 will pass into video game history, and I will always look
back with fondness. I think I’m tearing up… sniff

HA! Just kidding.

Keep frucking trags, er fragging trucks. And may the energy swords keep
swinging far into the future!

Thanks,
George

Today September 8th 2007, will live on as a day of infamy. Today, the podtacular hosts, JVB and Foo Mo Jive, decided to never host another episode about halo2 ever again. Ever. Period. No joke. For this one very special (or depressing) episode, I will submit my greatest halo2 moments ever. So far, I have never had anything read on the show. If you can read this, thank a teacher, and bungie, and podtacular for reading it. My favorite level is Delta halo, and sometimes things will happen that will surprise me. One time, me and a friend were playing coop on legendary, we went to the part were you were supposed to lower the bridge, and left our hog their. When we came back to get it, an elite was in the turret and opened fire on us. We going to take it out (not to dinner) with rockets, but wraiths and several grunt manned turrets began shooting at us. Now we were behind a rock, being fired at by wraiths, plasma turrets, our own warthog, an elite was coming to flank us, and to top it all off, we were low on ammo. I had some great multiplayer moments too, but I could not list them ( or count them).

spoofmaniac

Hi it’s spoofmaniac from the forums and I wanted to tell you about my very first day of Halo 2 on xbox live.

For a while, I didn’t have xbox live. I just had the xbox. But my friend talked me into it and the first game I played ever on xbox live was halo 2. I had the time of my life. I played with my friend and a lot of other folks and had a blast. I couldn’t believe that such fun existed. I vowed that day to never run out of xbox live. Because that would suck. I later learned that screamers existed and decided that no xbox live for a little while wouldn’t be that horrible. Anyway, Halo 2 will always have a part in my heart. That rhymes. I’m a poet and I didn’t even know it. Ok, I’ll stop.
Thanks for reading guys. Awesome show.

lord hobo

Hi Podtacular lord hobo here.

My memories of halo 2 are great memories, when i got halo 2 i was very exited and thrilled when i got to play especially when we twist the plot by letting you play as the arbiter. To be honest i cant really remeber my longest session of halo 2 but i must of been at least 6 hours doing glitches on various maps. My favoroute single player moment was playing as the arbeiter for the first time such a twist, as for my best multiplayer moment thats a hard question and one i can’t pick a real answer to but my best times was playing zombies and other awesome custom games. My most hated halo 2 moment was the ending, and i know i am not alone in saying that. as for what i will miss i am unsure of i suppose i will miss most of the maps that arn’t remade but i wont miss some of the maps like Colossus or Waterworks.

And while i am here i would like to thank all the podtac peeps i have played with over halo 2’s lifetime peace out and forward on to halo 3.

FUR10N

When Halo 2 first came out I was at the stores of Walmart at 3:00am to pick it up. I played it until 7:30 (thats when I had to go to school), and I beat campaign 3 days later. Since then I have logged an incredible number of hours. And I think the longest session I ever had was for 12:00 hours straight, from 7:00pm to 7:00am, in one of the podtacular allnighters. good times.

Joe Gardner

Halo 2 is a game that will surely go down in the history books. It was also the reason I am so into video games. I got Halo CE a while back and liked it, but it was Halo 2 that made me love both games even more. The night it released was chaos. I was watching G4 that night and it could’ve been New Years Eve with the countdowns and all the people waiting in lines. When I finally got my hands on it and put it in my Xbox, it was amazing. There were state of the art graphics for that time, comfortable game play, and an incredible story. My longest session with the game was not until about a year and a half later when I went to an arcade called Video Champ and spent 7 hours straight playing Halo 2 with about 10 other kids. Some of my favorite moments while playing it were like my first long range head stick, 2 killtaculars in a row, and getting the scarab gun. My favorite moment would have to be when I first connected onto Xbox live and totally got owned, but it was still fun.

The ending of Halo 2 was I think was hated by pretty much by everybody, including me. It was such a cliffhanger and I can’t believe I had to wait 3 years to be satisfied, but I guess that’s how Bungie will get millions to buy Halo 3. To me, Halo CE set up the story, and Halo 3 will end it in an epic and legendary way (no pun intended), and Halo 2 was just the filler in preparing us for Halo 3. But all of the communities, clans, podcasts, machinima, and eventual movie that came out of just this one game I don’t think will be matched even by Halo 3. I am going to miss it because it was the breakthrough of gaming that we all so desperately needed and it was the driving force for the whole universe it created. And think about it, if it wasn’t for this game, you guys wouldn’t be here helping people and being a refuge for so many obsessive Halo addicts who would otherwise be into something like Shadowrun. Thank you for reading this and I will be waiting for Halo 3 as if September 25th will be Christmas.

PS: You guys should put a Halo 3 countdown timer on your web site just to keep us updated.

Insubordination

Hey guys!!! I love your show, I’ve been listening to it all summer while I eagerly await Halo 3. Well, it is almost finally here!! I’m so sad to see Halo 2 go, and I’ve had so much fun with it!! Things that I will miss about Halo 2….Lockout…BXR…and well that’s about it! I think that bungie has done a great job combining the good ideas from H1 and H2 to make the ultimate HALO 3. I want to thank bungie for getting rid of the sucky weapons like needlers from halo 2, I mean, in the beta, the needler was a beast!!! I think bungie did a great job updating all the weapons to really balance out the game!!!

You guys rock!!!
With Love, Insubordination

Mentos

Hey Guys Mentos here,

Long time listen first time submitter. I can’t believe that were
farewelling the game that has been a major part of my life ever since it
came out.

The longest session I ever had playing Halo 2 was when I went to
Waterpolo Nationals for my school, and I brought up my Xbox, 4
controllers and Halo 2. Our supervising teacher wouldn’t let us do to
much physical stuff, in case we injured ours selfs, so we were stuck
playing Halo 2 most of the time. I can still remember the like 5
back-to-back first to 250 Slayer Sword games on Lockout.

My favorite moment when playing Halo 2 would have to be the first time I
heard the words ‘Killtacular’. It sounded so cool, and I kept saying for
the rest of the day.

The thing I hated in Halo 2, and no it’s not the ending, would have to
be modders/cheaters. I know this isn’t really a problem with Halo 2
itself, but I does really ruin your game for that day sometimes, but
thank jebus that it’s not as bad as Halo PC. You can’t walk two steps
without meeting and aimbotter in that game.

What I will miss the most about Halo 2 is some awesome times with my
mates having LANs at my house. We still do them about once a month and
they never get old. The sad thing is that not all of my friends can
afford to upgrade to an Xbox 360 to play Halo3, so the LANs will most
likely stop until They have 360’s. Yeah, so that’s what I will miss the
most, LAN party’s with my friends.

Keep up the great show guys,
Mentos

Babamthegrunt

What will I miss most about Halo 2, I would have to say, I’m going to miss
all the 12 year olds, they were my version of a free movie, all yelling
and screaming, It was like watching retards on crack, and LSD
My best Memory of Halo 2?
That would have to be when I tested out the new maps With Foomo, and then
got yelled at by mom, and every one heared…

I’m going to miss you halo 2, all those 10 hours that I got with you…
Farewell Old Friend

Here is an Ode to halo2

Brand New, you were, when I first picked you up
Such fun, we had, pwning noobs on Lockout
Then Came the modders, so sad was I
But you still young, had a patch, to dry my eye
New Maps what Glee!
New places to get a killing spree, such a massive map a dedication, to
Sidewinder
New Gametypes such fun, Just like team Bubble gum
A game of zombies, and a game of sticks
We pwned all those beatniks
You in Middle Age, to get a boost, you bring back two Old Friends
Hang em’ High and Derilect
But it did not help you, When your Younger Brother Halo 3, Fresh from the
womb.
Came to us, and left you with gloom
You now in old age, Left to die, except by few, who you still saw eye to
eye
Now is your time to pass, go join your friends as you die
It is time to enter the pages of Lore, to Enter the end.
And now I must ask, Do video games go to Heaven? When they Die
Farewell My old friend, Farewell my buddy… Say Hello to Marathon and
Oni…

I’ve never had such a profound love/hate relationship with any game other than Halo 2. I’ve never witnessed a group of game developers do so many great things yet utilize such poor judgement at the same time. Whatever the case may be Halo 2 has provided me with some great moments both off and online which I’m sure will continue with Halo 3.

-My longest session had to be within the first couple of`days after getting my hands on the game. I spent almost 2 1/2 full days just going over the maps, testing out the weapons and then tackling campaign on my own…...............on Legendary. I pray that the jackal snipers have less of a presence the 3rd time around because in Halo 2 they were just too good.

-My fave moment in single player, surprisingly enough, was playing as the Arbitor when I first realized that the Hunters were on my side. Watching those guys take on the Brutes was a truly awesome experience. I never thought I’d actually be rooting for those big bastards as much as I did at that moment.

-My fave MP moment was easily the first time I scored a legitimate Killamanjaro (non SWAT or RL gamtypes). That was really cool.

-The things that I hated about Halo 2….heh. How long is this podcast? Probably not long enough for what I’m about to type ;P

Less than adequate weapon design: Most of the duals were too weak on their own, BR was a tad too effective, the Sword (nuff said), PP was way too effective, the SLOTGUN, nerfed magnum, pathetic needler, useless sentinel beam, overpowered RL

SMG starts especially on big maps

Too much auto aim

Too much range on melee lunge

Burial Mounds

Restricted power weapon spawns

Any shotgun variant

Campaign levels being too linear

Did I mention those damned jackal snipers?

Crappy gametypes in MM such as 4v4 TS on Coags or any 4v4 Skirmish gametypes on maps such as Relic and Burial Mounds

No grenade start for Backwash. I actually like this map alot.

Moving crates on Elongation. Just didn’t work.

The sniper rifle on Collossus

Overemphasis on Dual Wielding

Superbouncing in MM

Cheating in general

Obnoxious players, but then again you get that with almost any game on XBL.

An ending which rivals that of the Sopranos in terms of “WTF….........Is that it!!!!!???”

Having sniper rifle ammo on Coags. Bad move

What I will miss the most about Halo 2 will be the MP maps. Aside from Burial Mounds and maybe Elongation I really enjoyed most of the level design in Halo 2. Unfortunately many of the experiences were tarnished by starting off with such a crappy weapon, poor weapon layouts and respawns and idiots on XBL.

Bring on Halo 3 so I can mute and blacklist people with great efficiency :)

Ulitma

hey guys,

so its time to say good bye to are friend halo 2. so many good times, so
many bad. i remember my first xbl friend, my first game matched up against a
modder, my first level 2 (xD so long ago). Its time 2 move on, but first a
look back on a few memories.

when i first played Halo 2, i was at a friends party. i my first thought
was ‘this game is awesome! im gettin a xbox n Halo 2!’ when i finally got
Halo 2 it was New years eve (i know it took me long enough) and i had UPS
over at my house for an all nighter.

Back in the day there was such a game called ‘the never ending game’. Do
you guys remember this? unlimited kills and people who play, leave ther
xbox’s on and leave, then come back. they went on forever! i believe i
stayed in a party of 12-14 for aout 6 hours (switching on and off with my
brother.

My favorite moment in single player: I was playing co-op with my brother
from the beginning on the game, working are way through. we got to Outskirts
and he jumps on the roofs, and im not paying attention what he was doing.
all of a sudden i see a flash n my HUD dissappeared. I find out my bro
picked up the ‘blind’ skull and was like “what does this do?” we went
through the whole get getting pwned and laughing.
My favorite moment in muti-player: there are too many! every time i get on
with a podtacular member was fun. whether it was playing in a giant party
with some well known people ( like foo mo, PK, Brent, Immortal, Quality,
Dialpex, Chevelle, Tarheels, etc.) or some not so well known ppl (too many 2
name). However, i got 2 say one of my best moments is when i threw random
stickies and they stuck people (AKA reaping raven)

The thing i hated most in Halo 2 were the glitching. now an ocassion BxR is
fine; but guys who always look 2 get out of the map and double shot make me
mad. why not play the game fair?

Thanks for letting me say my final respects.

Ulitma

Xwing 2000

Yo, Xwing 2000 here. I just wanted to share my favorite memories from Halo 2 with yall over at Podtacular. My number one favorite thing about Halo 2 was just it’s ability to bring a lot of people together. Over 70% of my current friends list I met on Halo 2. The most memorable thing in Halo 2 for me was when Containment was first released, me and all my friends spent almost 10 hours straight playing that map over and over. The most fun 10 hours I’ve ever had on Xbox Live.

Also, the uncountable amount of awsome Warhog Wars games I’ve had on Coagulation. And the first time I played Zombies on Foundation, which was back then called Dawn of the Dead.

One more thing, I have to give props to the thing that got me into Halo in the first place, Red Vs. Blue. Blood Gulch Cronicals was a master peice and I can’t wait to see what else the Rooster Teeth boys have up their sleeves.

Lastly, shoutouts to Xcomando, Predator77, Runewolf7, and Jakestir

Renegad3 N

For really long Halo 2 sessions. For a little while before becoming involved with Podtacular I hung around with a group of guys from 7 Day War. These are games hosted to unlimited with no shields for 7 days at a time. In my first game I ended up playing around 12 hours straight and getting around 5000 kills. The game was on Relic and I met a lot of great friends doing it!

Also like almost all the rest of us. I will miss good old games on Lockout, lets hope they remake it!

- Renegad3 N

MAG92

A long time ago in a galaxy no so far away their was halo 2. The counterpart to the best game console at that time. with the best multiplayer and clan support. Anyway the best and worst part about halo 2 was the flailing after you died the bad part about it was you would do it from 2 feet of the ground if hit by a grenade. The longest game I played was a game of zombie medic for 2hrs in short zombie medic is you have a yellow “Medic” who changes zombies into humans. but not the first zombie.

Anorexic Leader

Hey Podtacular, Anorexic Leader here to talk about Halo 2 and the good ol’ days. The first time I got my hands on Halo 2, it was around 5 a.m. the day it was released. I woke up super early so I could just try out the Multiplayer by myself before I had to go to school. I fired up Headlong, because the picture and description made it look really cool. I immediately thought to myself…..Holy Stuff! This game was instantly awesome. I can remember the first all nighter I pulled while playing Halo 2. It completely gave me a good, proud reason to be an Xbox owner. (Not that Halo 1 didn’t) The only thing I really hate about Halo 2, is that they stole my precious AR from Halo 1, and replaced it with a crappy SMG. However, Bungie did give us the glorious BR, that all good Halo players know and love. I also hate it that there is alot of cheating on Xbox live, and all the weapon glitches, and superbounces. Other than that Halo 2 is a very balanced and well credited FPS. And it has surely gone down in history as the most played Xbox game. Ever.

My most memorable moment was last year when me and 3 other juniors in high school, beat a team of 4 Seniors We played a total of 13 games straight, and they did not win 1. They were all ticked off, and wanted me to switch teams with them. And in some strange way me being able to see the fear on their faces as they were being owned by kids younger than them, meant sweet sweet victory. Halo 2 is still my favorite game even with all the new Next-gen titles, and it will be missed even though something much better is coming soon…we bid you farewell almighty Halo 2.

Lastly, I’d like to give a shout out to Chuckie J and all the people at Godtacular…a small thanks to Logan Payne, and lastly to Foo Mo Jive and JVB. Keep on fraggin’ lawn gnomes.

I think it would be cool if you could create enemies with forge. You and your friend could fight a bunch of brutes on a multiplayer map, or create a battle between a group of marines and boss or something.

Halo 2, farewell. It’s been a good few years. Playing Halo was my
first experience with the Xbox, and Halo 2 was my first game for the
platform. When I got my 360, I thought I wouldn’t play it anymore,
but I kept coming back to it. It never felt old, the online still
hasn’t been perfected like Halo 2 did. Without Halo 2, I think, there
would definitely be no Podtacular, and I would never have such an
awesome community to be in. In just a few days, I’m going to head to
GameStop, and I’m going to purchase my copy of Halo 3 Legendary
Edition, and Halo 2 will probably never be played again. But it will
always hold a special spot in my heart.
Goodbye,

jpsweet480

I think halo 2 has been one of the best gaming experiences I have experienced since I started playing video games. Most of the fun times started when I recieved a Recreational Clan invite for a podtacular clan. After accepting the clan request, I stuck to the clan for over a year. I have had a lot of fun times with Rec E. One particular match was very funny.

I was in a BTB game with 7 other Rec E players on Beaver Creek. The entire other team except one player quit on the other team. The player kept spawning at one base or another. Sometime or later, Sqweryl started yelling “RED BASE!” when the player was owned at the blue base. Soon, everybody started yelling “BLUE BASE!” when the player was eliminated at the red base, and “RED BASE!” when the player was eliminated from the blue base. We just kept going back and forth across the map, hunting down a single player in or around a base, while yelling out the base which he would respawn at next. I had such a good time, even though I never got the lone enemy.

Along with other funnier experiences, another moment that took the cake was when I was able to play in a podtacular clan match against Rec D. I had such a great time, because not only were the other players enjoying themselves, but the matches was also extremely close. Even though we ended up winning, that was without a doubt a couple of the best halo 2 games I ever played because of all the adrenaline that was pumped into those 4 games.

Thanks for reading and keep pwning n00bs!

I remember when I was a freshman and couldn’t drive Halo 2 was coming out
around my birthday. Naturally I forced my mom to drive me at midnight and
we even brought along my sister who slept in the backseat. We arrived
around 11:30 and proceeded to wait in line for a long time until they
opened up halo to the public. I remember getting closer and closer until
I could finally see in the store and was watching the game being played on
one of the stations. I was watching ravenously and finally I got my copy,
read the whole game manual and even the talks from the galaxy thing from
the special edition. I got home and played it until I had to go to
school. I got to school, first period Marketing, on the desk already was
carved “Elites pwn Brutes,” at this point I knew Halo 2 was going to be
special. Years later a lot has changed, I will be driving by myself and
will be skipping school and may even carve something in a desk, who knows? Halo 2 has grown up, and so have I.

t3hr3aper

Hey guys, reaper. Ah, Halo 2, such awesome memories, and also so many, MANY moments that I despised with all my being. So let’s recap: Halo 2’s release, I probably was at home, playing Jak and Daxter 2 or something, I wasn’t a Microsoft fan at that time (thank GOD I changed that), and I probably didn’t know Halo 2 was even being released. Such a sad, sad time in my life…

Well, since I’m not 100% sure on the “longest session” of Halo 2, so I’m just gonna cover the basics: The first time I EVER played on Legendary was my longest Single-player experience, since I was so n00bish at that time. I died well over 100 times in just the first level. Those darn Grunts…

Multiplayer was a 1v1 against my friend, full invisibility and overshields, no vehicles and only magnums on Coagulation. Round lasted well over an hour, because I forgot to set the kills to 5, and they were at 15. Yeah, that was a loon time to play.

Faveorite moments, I’ve had so many. Singleplayer was obviously either A) Halo 2’s ending (HAHA, yeah, right) and B) when you beat the game for the first time on Heroic, after failing so many times. So great. multiplayer, I really haven’t had many of, since I never had normal XBL for the original xbox, and XBL for the 360 only recently, but as of now, the best multiplayer moment I’ve had was owning in a 1v3 SWAT match over Matchmaking, the other three people quit on me.

Things I hated the most about Halo 2? drones and combat forms on Heroic/Legendary. Need I say more?

I will miss a lot, from the predictability of the campaign to the random squeals of grunts. But one thing I won’t miss? elites as enemies.

One last thing:
“I’m finishing this fight…”

Thanks guys!

Mechwarrior117

Hello Podtacular,
I’d have to say probably the best memory I have of Halo 2 is on the week
the game came out. On the Tuesday that it was released, my friend had
gotten it but I wasn’t going to be able to get it for another week,
because I pre-ordered it on Amazon.com. I was still in school at this time
and he had invited me over for the weekend with a few other friends to
spend the whole weekend as one long all day/overnighter. I still remember
when it was Friday (November 12, 2004) and all I could think about was
getting to my friends to play Halo 2. I don’t even remember a single thing
about that day other than playing the game. Thanks to Bungie, I had one of
the funnest weekends I’ve ever had with gaming. Halo 2 brought many more
great memories after that, but this was definitely the best. I hope Halo 3
will bring just the same.

Keep it up with the awesome podcast!

Logan Payne

Well since you have a ton of things you can say are great and you’ll miss about Halo 2, I figure I’d bring out the hate. Halo 3 hopes to raise Halo 2’s things done right across the bar so some thing I won’t miss might be something you loved about Halo 2 but I, for one, will not look back. Here goes:

soadfreak5800

I got into halo late in the game…i probably got it the september after it came out. I had heard of halo before but never actually understood what it was. But when i got it it was the greatest game ive ever played. Getting halo 2 is what has turned me into a hardcore gamer. Halo 2 had its problems. (I have hated the smg for soooo longg). But the multiplayer is still going strong in my 360. But I (aswell as every other halo fan) CANT WAIT FOR HALO 3!!!! I have no doubt in Bungie. I know they have created the greatest Series ever. Halo to me is the new star wars. Just a few more days guys i hope the covenant dosnt destroy the earth before the game comes out haha. HALO FTW!!!! I love your show guys. Keep Up The Good Work!

Wiggin Dude

Hey Podtacular,

I’ve been listening to your podcast since about episode 70, and i’m lovin it. So here’s some of my fondest memories from halo 2:

Keep on fraggin squirrel belts, and a shout out to Certificate18, Saint Ares, Bravo Element, and Kazakin

- Wiggin Dude (no its not ‘wigger’ its wiggIN, from the book Ender’s Game)

Kiaffex

So “Podtacular: The Unofficial Halo 2 Podcast” is really over now huh?

I remember when I first bought the Xbox, just for one game; Halo 2. I
loved the campaign so much. My favorite moment in campaign was either
getting the Scarab Gun for the first time or…uhm…using Action Replay
for the first time, hahaha.

My favorite multiplayer moments were training for Pro B tryouts with
Chevelle, or nailing my first superbounce. Yeah, yeah, I know superbounces
= bad, but I love glitching. Its so much fun! Another one was my first
custom game with the foo moz! To this day I have yet to have him on my
friends list…

One of the things I hated the most about Halo 2 (up to this date) is the
melee/lunge system. I’d hate trying to assassinate people and miss.
Another thing was trash talkers. Could never get enough of them. ;)

I will miss all the hard work I put into Halo 2. I tried really hard to be
“good” at that game, but I guess I will have to start over for Halo 3.

I remember my first episode of the Unofficial Halo 2 Podcast. I loved it.
Starting as a listener, look where I am in this community now…an
overlord, season tournament leader, pod tv dude! Can’t wait for Halo 3
guys. Thanks Bungie, for the gift known as Halo 2!

Thanks for everything podtac!

P.S. I liek mudkipz. Do you liek mudkipz?

Dustin Pettigrew

It’s been an awesome game none the less. I don’t have an Xbox myself, so I only got to play multiplayer with my friends, which was still good. For me though, Halo 2 is just starting. I got Halo 2 Vista for my computer and I’m loving it. I never had the full grasp of the campaign until I played it for myself. While some may be saying farewell, I’m saying hello for the first time to Halo 2 and Halo 3, ironic? Anyway, I just hope there are still some people on so I can practice when I get an Xbox 360 hopefully at Christmas. For those who are sticking to the xbox, I’m looking for you to play with me. Keep on fraggin’ trucks. Shoutout to the Customs and Call-ins show. Please Return my love!

Ferrai904

Hi there, you guys do a great job with the show. Well I’ll get
straight to my story. When Halo 2 was released the 25th of November, I
didn’t even have an xbox! I remember watching the commercial and knew
I had to get this game. I originally got addicted to Halo by playing
it on the PC and loved it. So I begged my mother to buy me an Xbox. I
didn’t play Halo 2 until Christmas. That was my most memoriable moment
with Halo 2. It was so powerful it made me buy a freakin Xbox! Keep on
talking stuff.

From,
Robin aka
Ferrai904

Burr

Hey all, its Burr,

I remember EXACTLY what I did when Halo 2 was released…

When Halo 2 was realeased in 2004, I was completely obsessed with poker. No one was expecting that, I know. But where I was going with it was this: On November (9th?), 2004, my school was having a huge poker tournament and had over 100 people playing in it. Instead of going to play, I immediately headed to the game store to pick up my copy of Halo 2 and straight home with my friend to play the campaign. I skipped the one thing I was waiting for to play Halo 2, and it was TOTALLY worth it. That weekend I had a LAN party at my house with about 20 people coming and going through out the night and I was hooked faster than a fat lady on a chocolate donut! I never looked back… until now. Halo 2 will never be forgotten! Halo 2, I salute you! Now Halo 3 is coming out you say? LETS DO IT AGAIN.

Keep on fragging amazing high-def trucks! WOOT

nicklepore

Hey guys, haven’t submitted anything in awhile so this seems like the
perfect time. Anyway, I believe m longest session was a round of Gulch
Wars on Containment. The round lasted nearly an hour and so many people
quit that it was eventually me and one other guy versus 6 people. We
won =]. Thank you for the good times Halo 1 and 2. Keep up bathin’
trucks!

AERO Strik3

I think my most memorable halo 2 moment was finding out about the
competitive side of Halo 2. I remember watching MLG on USA and finding
about all the weapon glitches. I think Halo 3 will be the mark of the era
where I really get involved in competitive gaming.

Halo 2, who’s numerous gaming exploits were enjoyed by millions of gamers around the world, died recently.

Halo 2 died late August 29th, at Bungie Studios in Kirkland, WA due to complications involving the birth if his son Halo III. He was almost three years old.

The award winning gaming experience, who gamers around the world enjoyed spending time with, was always a friendly guy. “I must’ve spent weeks worth of time with that guy. He was always fun to be around, and he always had some of the coolest games to play.” long time friend Foo Mo Jive was quoted as saying.

Halo 2 was born on Nov. 9th 2004, at the same Bungie Studios location he died at. “I think Halo 2 would’ve wanted it that way.” Frankie was quoted in the upcoming biography ‘Halo 2: Hero and Legend.

Halo 2 lived a full life. His video gaming career began with a 4 year stay at FPS high, graduating Valedictorian. “That was one of the best days of my life” Halo 2 was once remembered as having said. But he didn’t stop there. While his college career began with a shakey start ( “My Alpha and Beta days were a nightmare.” He once said.) But with a lot of effort, he managed to graduate in the top of his class, earning several ’ Best of ‘04 awards’, as well as several nods as ‘Best XBox Game’.

Once Halo 2 graduated from college, it was time to head out into the world. Halo 2 ended up spending most of his lifespan partying. “Oh yeah, Halo 2 was a party animal. He was always at the biggest LAN Parties. Europe, America, even Australia! He was always on the go.” Frankie said.

Even though he led his life to the fullest, Halo 2 always had one dark secret: He wasn’t finished. While he managed to keep it hidden from the world for the longest time, th truth eventually came out. ” So it’s like “I’ve come to finish the fight” and then what? Nothing! I can’t believe that my parents left me hanging off that cliff.” Halo 2 once famously said to his psychologist.

Halo 2 is survived by his wife Bungie studios, and his son Halo III. Halo 2 will be buried at ‘High Ground Cemetery’ . The viewing will be on Sept. 12, and the burial will occur the following day. Money for flowers can be sent to the ‘Kick-ass flowers for a kick-ass game fund’. Frankie will be delivering the eulogy.

“When I look back on my life, what is there to say? I’ve had my ups (Hell on Beaver Creek, anyone?) and I’ve had my downs (damn cliff hangers), but it’s been one hell of a ride. To all my friends and family, thank you (except you Billy, you little rocket-whore), you’ve made it all worth while. May I bring you fun and joy in the years to come, and may you all have pleasnt days. Please, have fun with my son (Halo III), but don’t abuse him to bad. Good luck, and god’s speed in all your future endavors.” – Halo 2 on his deathbed.

Snow House

I would just like to say that if Halo 2 was a guy, I would go gay for him. Thats all.

Jigsaws kill

Hey FooMo, JVB and the rest of the crew,

I just wanted to take a few minutes and say farewell to an old friend Halo 2, seriously what a great game and without a doubt the grand daddy of xbox live games. First my list of things that must go, which relate to Halo 2, the “Timmy’s”, you know the 10 year old kid singing, cursing, and slinging racism all about. The potty mouths need to be left in Halo 2, don’t bring that foul kick in the nuts with you into halo 3. Next the “stand by” cheat, come on cool guy keep pressing that stand by button you are the coolest thing since the pink “I am a gay marine” underwear in the podtacular store. And lastly the sumperjump and infinite invisibilty cheaters, ok “cheaters” period, why for the love of JVB’s squirel belt, do you even play the game if your not going to play fair. P.S. JVB no disrespect about the squirel belt it’s a great idea, especially since I have seen a guy with a rabbit belt it was awesome.

Now the things I love or loved about Halo 2, ROCKETS ROCKETS and ROCKETS, blowing up anything in multiplayer this never got old, especially taking out banshees from the sky. The whole 8 versus 8 was just awesome, Clans also sweet and in particular Podtacular rec E, you guys forever rock. And finally being able to play Halo 2 with my family my wife loves Halo and so does my 6 year old son and 10 year old daughter, just being able to game together is epic. My best experience with Halo 2 had to have been when my son and I were playing 2 on 2, this was about the 3rd time or so my son had played on live, previous to that we beat the campaign on legendary. We were getting killed 16 deaths to 1 kill, I then told my son to relax its just like killing grunts, next thing I know we ended up winning 25 to 18, he had come away with 15 of his own kills, I was as proud as any father could be. My son was so proud he got and the headset and said I beat you and I’m 5. It was fabulous. So thank you Halo 2 and Bungie for the experience.

Lastly a big Thank you to FooMo, thanks for giving me the opportunity to help out the community, thanks for putting me in touch with Cryptoflix, I can’t wait to get started on PodTV, I think Crypto is a good guy, we have some great ideas for things to come. Again Thanks for letting me be a part of the team I look forward to the future, best friend of the program.

Shane aka Jigsaws kill

ps. I have’nt overdone it yet with all the mountain dew game fuel, but think of this Squirel bandalaros for holding all that game fuel, JVB I’ll send you the pattern for that so you can get started. Thanks again guys.

Marine3000

Marine300 here,

I can truly say that Halo 2 and its online multiplayer has been a big thing
in my life. Ive met new people, joined great communities and strengthed
relationships with RL friends. I was a lil young when halo 2 actually came
out and the only time i played it was when i was at my cuzins house. I loved
the game at first sight. My christmas present for the next year had to be an
Xbox and halo 2 and 1. (and of course i got it) It was a year or two before
i got live but while i was playing the campaign i got into the storyline,
which led into the books. When i finallly got live i met new people online
and come to know and respect them over the years. And after i found some
local kids GT’s i became good friends with them also. The hours i have spent
playing the game may seem useless to other’s was like a second life to me.

And now that halo 3 is coming i just cant wait for it all to happen again
but now… itll be 100% better.

Marine3000 out… (until halo 3)

plasmaqrenades

Hey guys its plasma qrenades…Im writing this while im getting over some high school drama so y spelling might be bad but alright…my favorite Halo 2 moment would have to be my Podtacular Pro tryout when GLewis said “Man, plasmas really got guts..thats the kind of thing your looking for in a pro clan” and then I saw the message pop up on my screeen. Anyway…good luck with future episodes… See ya

lucastoast

I would like to start off saying that I was not a halo player until
reacently. The first time i ever played anything halo was at a friends
house a year and a half ago, ever since my first tentative moments I was
hooked. I went home and told everyone how amazing it was, how good it
looked, and how much fun I had dieing 15 times in a row. It wasn’t much
later that I went to my first halo party and played with ten other people
for eight hours staight. I can never explain how much halo2 ment to me and
my path in video games but at least I can say thank you to all the people
at Bungie who made it and the best fan base of any game.

lucastoast.

Well some of the fondest memories of my entire life have been spent
with the podtacilar crew. JVB, Foo Mo Jive, Dialpex, Kilobyte,
Feelthethunder, Gemini Ace, Brent Gamer, Killazilla, Painkilla05,
Chevelle, Tarheels, Dr.Thom, Fan Bama, Queso man, Moosey, Plasma
Qrenades, Samanator, Roman Craig, Jonnysan Reaping Raven, Daa Wheeze
and many others are people I can still today call my friends.

Its been an honor playing endless hours with each and everyone one of
the members of the podtacular universe. From podtacular 5, to
podtacular 007, to podtacular B, to Pro B, to the All-Stars, to the
bungie game, to the guest hosting positions, to the review frenzy, to
every tournament I was apart of and everything else that happened, a
good two + years have been spent playing halo 2 with the good guys
here.

So here we are, saying goodbye to the most important game in history
to myself. Not because of the gameplay, or the easy control scheme, or
the good looking graphics; but because of all of the people I was
lucky to meet throughout the process.

Now it’ll just be even better to get to know all of the new people who
are gonna come once halo 3 hits.

Long Live PODTAC!

John Wayne 119

My first memory of the halo universe was when i first got my hands on the, at the time not so well know “Halo”
, i was round a friends house who had the game but strangely i was the only one who could play it at any sort of decent level, so before i knew it i was round his once a day doing one level a day of campaign, on legendary of course, after completing the amazing campaign sometimes on my own sometimes 2 player, at the time i didn’t have the internet so i was completely unaware of the possibility of halo 2 or though i had my fingers crossed, time passed i grew and then bam , i waited a month until Christmas and there it was, i had halo 2, finally, ive played the single player countless times and it never gets old

Longest Session Played = All day single player frenzy

Best Single Player Moment = Clearing the bridge on legendary without driving thought it (nOObs)

Best Multiplayer Moment = So so many but it stands out every time i get a killtacular with a sniper rifle

What I Hated The Most = Really young gamers , super jumping , button combos , and the Cairo Station it was so hard on legendary but i did it.

I wont miss anything about halo 2 because halo 3 will replace everything while adding even more to the mix, bring it on.

Good Bye Halo 2, Hello Halo 3

.................John Wayne 119…..................................

Shout Out To “SNIDE uk” and “Everyone at podtacular”

· The night Halo 2 was released, where were you and how did you feel when you finally got your hands on the game.

Midnight release baby! I had skipped one college class early that morning to get a number for the midnight release. I was the 3rd person in Aiken, SC to get Halo 2 that night.

When I finally had the game in my hands, I was afraid. I was afraid I was going to get raped as I tried to leave the store that night. Thankfully I made it out alive and played for quite some time until i passed out.

· Tell us the longest session you ever had with Halo 2.

Wooo I don’t even know 8-10 hours.

· Your favorite moments with the single player and multi-player.

Single-Player: To say I enjoyed it all would be wrong. My favorite parts as for most, were the first beginning parts with the MC.

Multi-Player: I enjoyed playing co-op with a good friend of mine more than I ever enjoyed Xbox live. I will miss those times dearly.

· The things you hated the most about Halo 2.

The havok physics engine ruined melees. Most of the time in Live multi my melees would not hit even though the sound triggered. I would try assasinating people and it would take 2-3 times before it actually acknoledged my hit. May also be attributed to the lunge as well, or lag through live.

· What will you miss the most about Halo 2?
Everything great about Halo 2 will be carried on to Halo 3. In a way we will all still be playing pieces of it.

- Shaumarai

DogCow

Just a friendly help here. I noticed in Episode 126 that Foo Mo Jive wasn’t
sure on what the plural form of mongoose is. Just so ya know it’s mongooses,
not mongeese.

On a side note, I have noticed that many people in the forums incorrectly type
“duel” wielding when it is actually “dual” wielding.

Anyway, good job on the podcast, you do a better job than I could.

Thanks,

Hello Podtacular,
I’ve had a lot of memories with halo 2. My friends and I were playing a game of double team snipers on Coagulation, and it all came down to one point. I hid up in the cliffs, and my friend found a rock. Turns out we both had overshields for some reason. So I headshot him, duck back in, he ducks out, shoots me, and it went on for the longest five minutes of my life. Just when he’s gonna nail the final shot on me, my teammate pops him off like a cocker spaniel. Thankfully, we’ll get to replay our team’s ownage this time around in Halo 3.

Big Goalie Dan

Hey Podtacular,

Big Goalie Dan here.

My favorite moment of Halo 2 comes from one of the longest sessions I’ve ever had.

One night me and my friend whom I’ve known since high school were playing matchmaking. His girlfriend called in the middle of a game, so when we finished playing he called her back. I know he can take a while for him to get back to Halo 2 when he calls his girlfriend, so I decided to check out HBO while I waited.
In their forum I saw Frankie had made a post saying something along the lines of “Clan PMS dropped out of the Humpday at the last minute. Any volunteers to play us Wednesday?”
I checked for responses and I couldn’t believe there weren’t any so I said that my clan and I would take them on.

Well, Frankie didn’t get back to us right away but on Wednesday about 1 PM Eastern Time KP had posted that they accepted our challenge! I couldn’t believe it! Unfortunately everyone in my clan was at work and we were not able to start practicing until 6pm.
But once 6pm rolled around, almost everyone on my friends list was ready to roll and help the team who would take Bungie on out with practice. We played untill 11pm when the Humpday took place and we got spanked big time.

Here is the link if anyone wants to read the write up: http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&link=bgreghd

Now keep in mind that while we got owned big time, we only had 5 hours of practice whereas most clans have at least a week, if not more to practice and get ready.

This is my favorite day in Halo 2 history because not only did we get to play Bungie, but I got promoted to Overlord for swinging the deal for the Humpday, and better than that, my entire clan was reinvigorated.
At the time my friend and I were the only ones in our clan without a 360 and the only ones still playing Halo 2 every night. But thanks to Bungie, a fire was lit beneath everyone and they started playing nightly again.

This is also my longest session with Halo 2 because even after the humpday was over, the clan stayed up and played all night long. I got tired and logged off about 2 am, so I got a good 8 straight hours again. If it wasn’t for work I probably would have been playing from the second Bungie contacted me.

BTW, are you guys going to have a call in show soon? I just realized I’ve given JVB so much grief for giving the phone number out only once, but yet I’ve never called and left a voicemail. Of course, I’ve TRIED to call before but when I went to write down the number, it was the episode when JVB only said the number once. C’mon man! Ipods don’t have a reverse button! You gotta give it out twice!

Thanks for 100 plus episodes of Halo 2 goodness Podtacular. I look forward to 100 more for Halo 3.

Keep on fragging trucks

Big Goalie Dan

TheRussianKoLoB

Hey it’s TheRussianKoLoB here. I’m going to miss all of the insanely
modded games where you could crouch walk and fly across the level,
flying warthogs through the air, shooting a beam rifle and killing
everyone on the map, and of course the Scarab Gun. Also im going to
miss the seizures and spasms that your dead body has as you were
killed. Awww… Good times. Good times. Oh well, out with the old, and
in with the new. I would like to give a shout out to drive_c and to
all of Podtacular Rec E Clan.

Wrap up

Until next time I’m Foo Mo Jive (and this is)
