introductions

new mappage!

sup guys, this morning while fraggin’ trucks on the expressway, i
remembered today was the day for the new maps. thank GOD! anyways the maps
are amazing in my opinion, Tombstone being my fav. I was exploring
Tombstone for an awesome tip for the show and this is the best tip I have
so far. Dont try to jump outside the map, at least not from the hanging
lights on the walls of it, cause apparently you “fall to your death” if
you try to jump out the map. Hey by the way, i have noticed one thing
about Halo 3 wish lists. Not to diss anyone but some of the wishes for it
are like asking a little kid what kind of topping they want on their pizza
and the little responding “ICE CREAM”! Not to diss creativity but some
ideas are of the wall and so not what Halo is about. Thanks for sticking
around FOO Mo.
C-ya at the Beta!

i like Tombstone over Deisolation. In tombstone there is alot 2 explore.
For example, there are many rooms n tight corners which are great for the
up close game. its also great that all the power weapons are out in the
open, so its not so easy 2 get to them.

in deisolation, its a very dull map. its basically a redone warlock. And
why do u have vechicles on the map? its really small and with the lifts u
can send them flying.

Tombstone:Definatly my favorite of the 2. At first I thought it was like a
mechanical Beaver Creek, because it has a river/sewage running threw the
middle. Being the person I am, I imediatly tried to get out of the map
just for the heck of it. luckily the place that would be most obvious to
try, imediatly killed you saying you fell to your death. Im glad that for
a while no one will be snipeing from outside the map.
Desolation:At first i thought Desolation was sort of boreing. I saw just a
circle with 2 levels, and different colered sides. but once I explored it,
I found it would be very interesting for ambushing and machinima. If
Desolation is in Halo 3 than it would be perfect for traps, like set a
trip mine in one of the tunnels and, BABAM! a guy walks into it.

I have a fun gametype for Desolation. I call it trickster.

Primary and secondary vehicals are ghosts
unlimited time/kills
ok i played this with Kickimanjaro and Samus117. all you need to do is
boost towards the grav lifts pressing A which will make you do a wheely.
as you hit the lift let go of boost and you will fly in the air doing
tricks. with some practice you can do flips. Send me a friend request if
you wanna play with me.

shoutouts to : Kickimanjaro, Samus117, and Jburton90.

Tombstone takes Hang em High to another level in my opinion because of the
tactical possibilities now due to the some minor tweaks to the overall
design. Along with some nifty lil jumps and clever weapon layouts such as
the location of the rocket launcher, I especially like the addition of
the secret entrance located in the tunnel area under red base.

I also like the decision to implement BR/SMG starts here because I just
can’t see a wide open map like this functioning well with everyone
spawning with some ineffective half-a-weapon. I can see some really good
CTF and King of the Hill games happening here.

Desolation (aka: monkey madness)kicks ass as well despite having an SMG
start and sentinel beams o_0. I love the lighting and the color scheme and
think the decision to add air lifts was an excellent idea. Objective games
and FFA are really going to work well on this map.

Overall nice job by Bungie and Certain Affinity for bringing us these maps
so we’ll at least have something occupy our time while we wait for May 16th
to get here.

Hey suckas, its tubaguhbluba here. i guess i was expecting too much of the
maps because when i played them for the first time, i found that they
didnt really meet my expectations. first, desolation, the map i hated most
from halo 1, got some improvements. its easier to find your way around the
map. but, i felt that you are WAY to vulnerable in the middle of the map.
next, tombstone. hang em’ high was my favorite map, but im not so sure
about this remake. didnt they say they were gettting rid of that big ramp?
well, they didnt. and the grav lift they said was going to replace it, but
was put on the other side of the map. and i kept finding the same weapons
everywhere on both maps. i kept seeing swords, plasma rifles, brute shots,
rockets, sential beams, and shotguns on both maps. there wasnt any variety
with the weapons on the map. i expected to see some other weapons, like a
sniper. now that im done criticizing the maps, ill tell you what i like
about them. tombstone rocks (no pun intended) because there were some good
improvements to it, like not having that annoying lip that catches you when
you try to jump out of the little ditch thing in the middle of the map.
desolation to me is ok. i can see some cool rumble pit games using this
map, and i like the 2 grav lifts. overall, i would say these maps are a
good way to spend $4 and i hope to be having some awesome custom games on
these maps.

Oh I smell machinima possibilities in the air with Tombstone…
Well I’m off but let me sum up how we all feel about the new maps…
Logan Payne owns…but the maps…they own Logan

...no seriously I can’t help but keep dying in Tombstone CTF

I think I will wait for the beta. 2 new maps isn’t much to get excited
about really.

1. What do you think of the weapon placements? Anything new? Any
particular ones create some interesting fights? On Tombstone, I like how the sword and sniper are high up the map. In a
slayer game, these power weapons are not easily accessible from the start
making the game more balanced. If you do take the time to get to this
high place, if you take the sword, you’re in a position to jump to the
center of the map basically above anyone and take them for surprise. If
you take the sniper, you’re in one of the highest places already and
with the best view, and therefore, the best sniping position. The rockets
are on the bottom in the sewer. Since this is the only weapon that is
easily accessible to everyone, the fight towards the beginning of the game
is likely to start here.
2. Got any gameplay tips for these maps? In Single Flag Capture the Flag (I couldn’t find the maps in multi), the
flag is based on the highest position in the corner of the map. This could
possibly the most difficult map for the offensive team. The defensive team
has easy access to the 2 power weapons from the start and they have a good,
high up, sniping view of the entire map. I have no tips for the offensive
except A LOT of teamwork and good luck.
3. Do you think there is enough cover on these maps for close-mid range
battles? What are your favorite game types on these maps? Have you come up
with any unique customs for them yet? On Desolation, there is not a lot of cover unless you want to hide behind
the central structure where the rocket and sword is or on the ramp. My
favorite gametype is Slayer and Capture the Flag on Tombstone for the
above reasons, more balanced, more teamwork. No customs as of yet, they
are a work in progress, will post in the Gametypes Section when they are
ready.

Desolation: Desolation was an okay map. After playing several times through with some
friends, I’ve noticed how useful the BR is at longer ranged assaults. The
SMG default start balances this out, plus, the Battle Rifles are quite
hard to find. The grav-lifts are fun to go up and down; dangerous, but
fun. Rating-wise, I would give this map a 3/5. I can’t seem to put my
finger on the exact reason, but something seems odd about this map.
Tombstone:
I haven’t played too much Halo 1 (especially Hang em High), but jumping
right in, I really enjoyed this map from the beginning. What really
surprised me at first was the spawn weapons. Featuring a BR+SMG start,
this map shows off that it was meant for “hardcore” players. With multiple
power weapons on the map, it kinda reminds you of Zanzibar mixed with
Foundation (due to the scenery and level design). I would give this map a
5/5. I really enjoyed this map, and it can make some serious CTF matches.

Be sure to watch out for an upcoming Pod TV show overviewing these maps,
filmed by me! Keep up the good work!

This is longtime viewer quigs. I thought the maps were awesome!! I’m
slightly dissapointed about no snipers on Tombstone or if there are i
didn’t see them. Shoutout to cockadoodle noob(JVB for all you first timers),
FoomoJive, and myself. KEEP ON FRAGGINTRUCKS.

Your loyal fan, Quigs 10190

This may just be my opinion but I have to say that I am not impressed with
Desolation. I though it had a lot of potential to be a good map but it
fell well short of my expectations. If I were to choose one word to
describe it, that would be PLAIN, there is nothing special about it. Nothing making you want to come back for more. I was disappointed with it
but I will still play it a lot just because it is a new map but all the
same, I though Certain Affinity did not do as much with it as they could
have. Once again this is just my opinion so these are expressly my views
and in no way represent the Podtacular Community as a whole, Thank you.

While slightly different then their Halo 1 incarnations, Tombstone and
Desolation own.
Watch the red lift on Desolation, if you place it just right, you can land
smack-dab on top of the overshield.

The lifts on tombstone make sense. I mean, they had to scrunch things
together a little to fit everything, so it’s either lifts or ramps that
stick out so bad you could trip over them.

Desolation seems more fun now. The lifts add a fun new element to the map,
as well as a bit of target practice. Just grab all the grenades littered
around on top, and spam away!

Tombstone has plenty of cover, unless you are playing with 15 others, then
Chief starts getting a bit over-exposed. Desolation is pretty open too, so
always watch your back.

Tombstone, the map everyone has been waiting for. I think compared to the
original, its a little cluttered. Hang ‘em High had this huge space in the
middle you could snipe and shoot rockets through, and the middle on the
ground was a little more open. If anything is wrong with this map, thats
it. I love Desolation. One of the best maps in my opinion. Here’s
something cool, you can have vehicles in Desolation. Try it. They even get
launched up top with by the grav lifts! Much fun. Good job with the podcast
and keep on fraggin’ trucks.

Overall I think the new maps are amazing. Desolation is exactly what I
think warlock was supposed to be. And what more can be said about
tombstone than, about time. I got to play some customs the day they came
out and I really enjoyed CTF on desolation, I would suggest a BR start
rather than SMG though. Tombstone is a great slayer map, but I’m a little
worried about just how much strategy is going to be needed for objective
games. And what is with all the over shields. But it is good to see the
architecture of hang ‘em high actually make sense. I can’t wait for these
to get into matchmaking. That will be the real test of just how well they
were designed.

Desolation reminds of a larger warlock in a sense. I love how you can
choose to have warthogs on the maps. How can i describe tombstone’s
greatness. The map has many walkways which give u different ways to
approach the base. Some locations give for excellent sniping points.Keep
on fragging trucks and hope that it wasnt the ice cream man.

First off my opinions are swayed by the originals. I didn’t like Derelict
and loved Hang ‘Em High. So with that in mind I don’t like Desolation and
love Tombstone. Desolation seems like a poor copy of the original. It’s
boring. Monkey noises do not make the level exciting I’m sorry to say. The very basic scenery just isn’t what I expected. And the weapon choices
are one step above a yawn in slayer. I think the most exciting thing
visually on that map is the base markers in the sky. Now Tombstone was
obviously worked on more. The weapon placement is fantastic, snipe and
sword right next to each other but you’re out in the open asking to get
BR-ed. Shotguns galore. And the much forgotten about needlers for the
pink fury from across the level fans. The look of the level from any
point just screams battleground. Now a huge huge complaint I have about
this level is the sound. Can we please get someone on board that thinks
its a horrible idea to steal the sound from Burial Mounds. How did this
pass as OK? Don’t get me wrong, on Burial Mounds it’s great…but don’t
just steal the same sound file and charge me for it. Although it’s only
four dollars, I still paid for something NEW!!! I think this is so much
of a bad idea I hope that there is a patch in the works to change it to a
new sound file. You could at least put elephant sounds in the mountain. j/k

First off, it’s a fresh addition to Halo2 offing something new for the time
being. So far I’ve enjoyed several custom matches with the podtacular gang.
Here’s my first impressions: Both maps seem to be well balanced with
Tombstone my favorite. This map works well with Capture the Flag, BigTeam
Slayer, Zombies, and so on. Large team battles rock in this map with
plenty of cover but no perfect place to hide. High ground offers an
advantage here, but the starting BR for most game types evens the score.
This is a GREAT sniper map with any size group.

Desolation is well suited for fast paced slayer matches. And believe it or
not, this map ROCKS for Tower of Power matches (thanks FooMo). Two turrets
on either side, but both are out of reach of one another, offering
excellent team play for this type of custom. Also one of my favorite
balanced game types, LowBall Hill recommended by MoJive, works wonderful
on this map, maybe better than other maps due to the two level setup. Team
members seem to rain down from above and BaaaBaamm, your dead.

Needless to say, I’m very excited with the new additions and look forward
to killing you soon.

Well… That thingie on Tombstone is freakin’ awesome. And that
thinga-wajacka on Desolation… man, that’s sweet. Oh yeah! The
doo-hicky-mabober! That think pwns all the nub cakes.

If you haven’t already guessed, I don’t have the new maps. I haven’t been
able to play Halo 2 on my 360. It’s either backwards compatibility issues,
or my disc is too scratched. The latter seems to be more appeasing. I think
I’ll go out and buy a new disc soon, so I can get back online with you
guys. But the new maps definitely look cool, I can’t wait to try them
out.

To start I played to original maps on halo and the new ones are better then
the original. For desilation i like how the removed the teleportes and
added the ramps and lefts. Also i like how they added two bases on each
side that were never there before. Before in halo it was on a space ship
like midship and now its in a forest. the last thing about Desilation is
that you can use veicals there. On Tomestone it was in a building and now
it is like a factory on earth. I like how the weponds are placed and i
like how the defalt weponds are a BR and an SMG. I like how the bases are
arrange and how there in a room with a soda machein. Lastly I like there
is Bomb boxes on the map.

ok first off for the 2 maps i thought the price was perfect. desolation was
ok, i wasnt a big fan of derelict anyways from the first halo. but tombtome
was really awesome, theres so many places to be in that level, you can be
the sniper and go up to the highest beam, or down low with the rockets,
also the hallways in the level are going to have some crazy shotgun
battles in there, i thought tombtome was a great remake of hang em high,
it still has the valley in the center except now its water, and they added
alot of stuff.

What up podtac peeps?

I’ve never really played the first halo, so I hope my QUICK review of the
new maps provides an exclusive halo 2 prospective.

Tombstone: CTF
A fun map to play CTF games on. I had a chance to play a quick game of
CTF the morning the maps where released and had a blast. Once you grab an
enemy flag, you can chance running it across the middle but you expose your
self to enemy fire or you can take one of the several roads less traveled. It is a bit longer but your enemies may not be able to find your location
until it is too late. But, just because you choose to take the long way,
doesn’t mean you’re not exposed. Two of the ways I’m taking about is
the steel walk way along the wall and running it threw the enemies base to
the bottom of the map then taking cover with the channel bridges. (obviously these bridges where left here by the G.I. JOE tank)

Desolation:
This map looks like Warlock’s bigger brother that works out and takes
steroids! Complete with a middle two story tower (just like warlock) two
gravity lifts at both ends, and two clearly marked bases, it seems to be a
very balanced map. It looks like a very fun map to play TS, CTF, or a ball
game on and I can’t wait to give those game types a try. I did have a
chance to play a hill game in one of Foo moo’s world famous HUGE custom
games. I had a lot of fun but with that many people you realize how open
the map is even though it does not seem to be.

I really like the new maps, but after downloading them and playing my
first game in Tombstone, I couldn’t help to think about Halo 3, (Hurry
up BETA!!!)

P.T.F.O.

Chevelle65 aka Shovel

Ps. Halo News is back!

A great gametype to play on desolation is low hill. My brother and I along
with Foo Mo Jive played this and we had a blast.

Ok, from playing yesterday, and from reading the Podtac forums, I’ve
noticed what seems to be a general dislike of this map (Desolation). I
just wanted to write in with a few positives, to hopefully sway some
people and to at least give another viewpoint.

First of all, there are the grav lifts. I think this is a great
replacement for the classic teleporters that we had in Derilect. It
allows for easy transport from the bottom floor to the outer ring, or to
the center-structure (where the sword spawns). The other good reason for
the lifts is that when someone uses it, you hear it, and it gives players
an idea of situational awareness.

Second, I personally think the map is well balanced. Some may gripe and
say that the sword and rockets are too close together, but if you think
about it, for team games, people will have to choose between the two,
which will make for some very interesting initial battles. The shotguns
in the back tunnels are nice, because it is a great place for up-close
combat, but nothing is more fun than throwing a nade in and watching the
shotty guy run in fear.

I also want to comment on the size of the map. For me, this is a perfect
size, and I think it is well suited for team combat. While there are the
back hallways and rooms, there is also a lot of open space, which is good
for mid-long range BR battles, without the closterphobia of Warlock (which
many have compaired this map to).

Lastly, I will talk about my only gripe: the overshields. While great for
team games, and having two is great for balance, it is an absolute mistake
for ffa. Most likely, though, they won’t be there in Rumble Pit games,
and I sincerely hope this. Nothing is worse than one guy camping the OS
and stealing everyone’s kills while he is invincible. Other than that,
though, the overshields should add a little to the stategy of the map, as
it will be less wise to run and gun like you could in other arena maps,
like Warlock and Midship.

Well, hopefully some people will give this map another try, cause I would
hate for it to end up in the same forgotten wasteland as Backwash did.

To start off the new maps are very fun to play. On Tuesday when these
first came out i was in a full party of Podtacular Members including Foo
Mo. We played a wicked game of Low Hill on Desolation and a Team Slayer
Game on Tombstone. As of right now Tombstone is my favorite out of the
two maps. I really like it cause it is more of an urbanized setting. Also it has a great amount of cover when on the ground floor with all of
those random pillars. So in the end everyone should download if wondering
to do it or not. Its tons of fun and we should have more Custom Tuesdays!

TO COVER:

desolation
  1. customs: double t.o.p., crazy king and team crazy king, low hill, predator, mortal kombat, sucks to be you
  2. ramps are great for KOTH or tower of power for getting up there out of sight of the guns. plus there are shotguns in there, come in handy when you get close at the top or if someone tries to hit you on the ramp
  3. barrels are excellent movable cover in certain games. in TOP use the ones in the center to expand the cover area and the ones by the turret to guard the gunner. also you can jump on the one below the turret and get partial damage on the gunner if you jump in front and shoot him in mid-air
  4. low hill: you can use the corner pylons to cover your back and stay out of most of the fire
  5. crazy king: at the upper levels on the sides you can hide from the action in notches in the wall and still be in the hill.
  6. monkey and bird sounds, graphics
  7. lifts can be used in any direction, make you vulnerable, can take you right to the overshield
tombstone
  1. customs: team snipers 4v4, team slayer, team oddball, CTF and CTF classic, diplomacy
  2. hole in ground at lower red base
  3. controls for crane, breakable glass in shotgun room on side, soda machine
  4. hidden halo 1 pistol behind a cage!
  5. new lift is cool
  6. lip at last spiral by top of base is great for defense
  7. glitch-free map? superbounce “fall to death,” jump from lamps to outside of maps = death
  8. poop in front of the bottom ramp at red base
  9. ramps can be surprisingly useful for flag carries
  10. it’s hard to counter 3 or 4 guys advancing at once by the lift
  11. invisible walls

Wrap up

Until next time I’m Foo Mo Jive (and this is)
