Some enjoy the multiplayer thrill that is halo. we all remember our fist double kill and how awsome that felt( only to realize that you were a noob when your cousin got killtacular). But what many people seem to overlook is the story to Halo. This trilogy, in my mind, is a wonderful sci-fi epic. In the begining you come out of nowhere and as the "hushed casket" is opened this mysterious soldier appears. The questions begin to race arround in your mind, "who is he?", "where did he come from?", and more importantly on a larger scale "where did we come from?" "where are we?".
This soon becomes clear to us as we make our way to the bridge. Marines fighting this mysterious alien force are reffering to you as "sir", you have the urge to join the fight and save lives but the urgency of getting to the bridge is more important. you are forced to watch many brave men and women slaughtered at the hand of your enemy. You finally make it to the bridge and are greeted by captain Keyes and the mysterious yet interestingly familiar Cortana.
You realize that you are on the losing end of a battle when an officer says "we've lost the cannon" and Cortana replies with "that was my last defensive option". The chief is told to get of the ship and onto the mysterious ringworld that is Halo, and more importantly protect Cortana. The AI enters your head and she feels as if she has always been a part of you, that you are one. you soon make your way to the lifeboats fighting hoards of alien monsters seeing destruction of this vessel, the Pillar of Autumn, that has served as protector, defender, and home for many marines and navy members alike. you finally make it and taking time to toss a marine who has lost his footing into a life boat you depart, just in time too. You look back and see the POA roll over with flames spewing everywhere. Your attention is now diverted to this new construct which looks as if it will be serving as your home. A marine shouts to the pilot "What is that thing liutenant?" and the navy pilot responds with "Hell if I know, but we're landin' on it." and so your journey has just begun.
The importance of these events in the first halo is that it is a classic entrances to any sci-fi story, starwars, dune, they all throw their audiences into a new place that they know nothing about. Along with this the writer also puts action at the beginning to draw your attention.
After playing through more of the story you begin to realize that there is more to this crisis than just Chief and Cortana. This is not only a living world but a weapon, one that is meant to destroy all sentient life,... everything.
the introduction of flood is also an amazing twist to the story, congrats to bungie writers for imaginng this.
(I hope to write a little more eatch day let me know what you think of my analysis of this trilogy)
